I’m hoping Lester takes a few of Mathieson’s midfield rotations.
I could be wrong but I thought someone came up with a stat for each club as who attended the centre bounces most when your club won the clearance and it was Lester for the Lions. It would have been a small sample but with a bit more time/space in there now with the 6,6,6 rule he might be an option at centre bounces.

This is such a massive game for us.This is the start of a block of winnable games for us. If we lose, l can see our hope and confidence go right down and it will just be a tough slog getting a few wins. We win and everything is looking rosier at 4-2. Big big momentum game
Definitely agree!
A loss would put a massive dampener on the confidence from the start of the year and will take some hard work to get it back.
Especially after the last 2 weeks!

Must win if we still have finals ambitions IMO.

Small write up on Noah by blues fan DPS

Answerth missed out on being drafted last year after a freak injury early in the year, this year he proved why he was considered a smokey last year despite the injury, he captained Oakleigh Chargers to a grand final and he managed to play every game for Vic Metro and was a consistent player both there and in the TAC Cup. Blues here take a ready made player with leadership credentials and a fantastic work ethic.

Btw the pick we used on Noah was it ours or traded in?

My thoughts too. There are quite a few teams entering this round 3-2. For young sides whose confidence is a bit fragile from not having had much past success at this level, there's a massive difference between 4-2 (with some winnable games to come), and 3-3 (especially involving three consecutive losses). Just think we need to get back to applying defensive pressure up the ground, and also contested footy. Put the blue overalls on, and leave tuxedo at home.

Regardless of who's in I hope whoever is out on the wing plays with some bloody width Instead of getting sucked into every contest. Our wing positional play was absolutely abhorrent last week and we got carved up because of it. You could be Usain Bolt and still look like you're running in quicksand if you're constantly out of position and chasing.

I'll be looking for Lester to provide better width in our defensive clearances, too many times we hacked a quick kick out wide only for no-one to be there because they didn't keep width correctly. Lester tends to run width wise to space nicely in defensive transition and is a good mark which helps evens contested situations

We don't really have a genuine defender with any kind of pace anymore. But really, the only particularly pacey Suns' forward is Jack Martin.

I am a bit worried about Martin. He always looks like he's ready to break a game open and often these derbies bring out the best in certain players.

Walker should go fine on Wright, particularly as the latter will spend a decent whack of time on the ball.

Gardiner's logical opponent will be the debutant Corbett. Corbett strikes me as the sort of undersized KPF that dominates at state level but struggles against AFL level athletes. But the way Gardiner has found it hard to stay in contact with his direct opponent this year worries me quite a bit; here's hoping he can take advantage of what really should be a matchup that suits him.

I genuinely have no idea who is going to take over Mathieson's minutes on the ball. I see a number of options but no standouts.

I'm surprised we're bringing in Cutler, Taylor and Answerth all together. It'll be interesting to see if that translates at all to a change in style of play; we've definitely looked static the last couple of weeks bringing the ball out of the backline.

We really should win this. It's a derby and we're away from home so I won't say we should win it comfortably. But while I was reasonably content to accept that against Essendon and Collingwood we came up against better teams playing well I don't think that'll fly this week. It's not a strong Suns team by any measure.

I would have to think that Zorko, Berry, Mitch Robbo and perhaps even Rayner (to get him more involved) might have extra centre bounce minutes. It certainly feels like they are looking for more general movement and less static type players.

No such thing as an honorable loss in this one, we should win and win comfortably and I'm confident we will.

Lions by 50.
I feel like the Suns have overachieved so far this season simply through teamwork and sheer hard work (and all credit to them for exactly that). If you look at their selected team, there are a number of match-ups where we really need to be looking to exploit them.

If they outwork us we are in trouble (as we would be against anyone), but if we match them in intensity and pressure I think the rest will take care of itself. All about attitude IMO this week.

I’m kind of guessing Answerth will go to Martin if he’s playing forward.

Will be interesting to see how we match up on Wright, Corbett and Lukosuis. McStay could still be a chance to play down back unless Lester plays on one of them.

Hint, hint.

So we might see him up the ground?
Was doing some reading up on Noah and apparently plays back mid and forward so we could see him anywhere

A few years back Martin was on fire in the first quarter - kicked four or five but then dropped off.

The thing with McStay is that he is the classic "project player" and they tend to be heart breakers and sometimes coach breakers.

McStay started as a forward with limited success, shifted to defence where he quite didn't work out, has now switched forward again and still struggling there.

After 84 games and plenty of opportunity his biggest 'bag' in a single game is 4 goals (against Carlton) and he has kicked 3 goals on only three other occasions. Hardly inspiring stuff. This year he is averaging a goal a game, but he hasn't kicked a goal in 2 out of 5 games.

I'd love to see him come good, but on what we have seen so far, it is not looking promising. I would have said he was worth another shot in defence, but with Walker in career best form, there really isn't a place for McStay in defence.
Being super critical here consider our scoring over the past 5 years. His biggest 'bag' isnt the problem. It's his inconsistency in getting 2 goals a game.

He is what 24? He was pritty good in the first 3 rounds. We have been trash for along time too. I wonder how many Darling or Kennedy would of kicked had they have had the same midfield kicking to him.

Now not saying Mcstay is gonna make it. But I think as a KPF you need abit more then 6 years particularly with a developing midfield thats been bottom for so long.

Things I would like to see more of from Mcstay are.
1. Crashing packs/contested marks.
2. Taking his opportunities when they arrive.

Fixes these parts of his game and no one would complain.

Regardless of midfield, he needs to be showing more than what he has. I still have hope for him but he hasn't shown a lot. Would you say Carlton has a better or worse midfield than us? Curnow has shown a lot more than him (to be fair, Curnow is a gun), McKay has also shown more than him despite having far less games.

Curnow is a gun. McKay has been ok.

Mcstay hasnt been consistent but IMHO has shown plenty.
