Goldy definitely better around the ground and was flying (going well in the brownlow too) until round 6. Still had a solid year and has been unlucky to not be a multiple AA ruckman already. Gawn is better in the bounces and contested marking and had a much better year than Goldy. Can't say who is better overall as both have strengths the other would love. Goldy has the record for most hitouts ever in a season so I'll give him the nod for now. Should be a great rivalry for the next few seasons.

The 2 best ruckman in the AFL. On form during 2016 I think Gawn has gone past Goldstien. Gawn has improved out of sight from a VFL ruckman in 2015 to All Australian in 2016 ... Goldstein, whilst still very good, has not been quite so dominant in 2016 as in prior years.

Goldsteins 2015 year is uncannily similar in all statistics to Gawns 2016 year

(look up their stats)

Goldy has been in the best 2-3 ruckmen for probably the last 4 seasons, and the outstanding ruckman in the competition for one of those.

Gawn has also been the outstanding ruckman in one of those seasons, but probably hasn't demonstrated the longer term consistency yet.

If both were completely fit then I would probably still take Goldy for 2017 but if you were building a list for the medium-long term then obviously you would take Gawn.

In saying that, it wouldn't at all surprise me that if by the end of their respective careers Gawn has the better overall record. He just needs to show that consistency over a longer period first and not become a one hit wonder. FWIW I'm pretty confident that he won't end up like a Minson or Jamar, but will go on to be one of the best in his position over the nest 4-5 years.
