Surprised this thread has stayed half decent. Agree they are the 2 standouts. Fair gap to the chasing pack with NicNat gone for 2017.

Max had 2 himself, 18 touches and 63 hitouts in that game. You're disparaging one of the best single game ruck duels of the last 20 years.

It was the best ruck duel I have seen in a very long time. Goldy was smashed in the ruck which is rare for him so as a good player does finds another way to impact the game - that was to push forward and kick goals.

Goldy got 10 coaches votes - Gawn 7. If Dees had kicked that goal with a couple of seconds to go the votes would have been the other way around IMO.

Gawn would have been AA this year with or without the beard, he was huge, but I agree he gets over hyped because of his beard. It goes to show how simple a lot of Australians are to be honest.

Yup. Was unbelievable. I suspect every coach will be grabbing the game film of both of their games to show every single AFL ruckman - the level of their play was just unreal.

HO to adv, contested grabs, possessions and goals.
