Interestingly trackman was showing that his attack angle was way too steep for Driver however he was able to deliver the club with a dynamic loft which cancelled it out. Fitter was a bit confused for a bit about what was going on as he hadn't ever really seen it. He said Sergio did something similar. Encouraged him not to try and change it as he believed it was in DNA and would be difficult and would cause problems for him. Another fitter in the industry loved his steep attack angles as well.

Hi fellas, not sure if this is the right place for this or not... equipment? I was very keen 20 years ago, roughly 14 hcp, then I tapered off and have barely played the past 12 years.

I'm trying to get back into it with some range seshes and the first thing I've noticed is my distance is way down across the board. I only got swing speed tested once about 2009ish and I was 107 mph with my stock swing with driver and 113 if I went after it. So... I kinda went and bought a second-hand Garmin R10 that's telling me my driver speed is now more like low to mid 90s. :(

I've done 10-12 sessions of 110+ balls in the past 7 or 8 weeks and seen some overall distance improvement as my ball striking has improved, but my swing speed isn't really improving. Oh, I'm 54 now too. :'(

So, I guess I'm asking: If just extended practice can improve my swing speed? Or, is there particular training I can do? Or, is there any equipment out there that some can recommend to help with this? Or, am I just ****** 'coz I'm an old campaigner, get used to it?

I've seen a few things online, but I'm skeptical about most 'training aids' for golf. If someone has any experience with something that worked, then I'd love to hear it.

I have lost a lot of speed through my 50s. Bought a set of Callaway Apex irons and Titleist woods pre covid. I must have been about 51. But when I was tested just over a year ago I had really dropped off to a point where I had to change equipment to help. Kept the Titleist heads but put light, counter balanced shaft in them to help with speed. Went 7 hybrid, 6, 5 and 4 (with the counter balanced shafts), and moved into Mizuno hot metal irons with graphite shafts to help 8 iron down.

There are training aids to help with speed (not experienced with them myself), but yeah it sucks aging and losing distance.

Anyone here subscribe to Joe Mayo's Patreon for all things re short game instruction?

I've overhauled my chipping action using these teachings for the last 6 months and now working on his bunker technique (previously the worst part of my game). Early results (2.5 hours practice in) are pretty encouraging. Working on coming in a lot steeper and sharper in the traps.

Joe seems a good guy (all proceeds go to animal rescue which is a cause I 100% support). Have followed him since his early days as Trackman Maestro based at TPC Summerlin.

I’ll have a look at some point but nothing can cure the yips. I’m convinced if I could chip and putt like I did 21 years ago I’d be a single figure handicapper.

I started to lose confidence (really lost it over the last year) in my chipping ability, slowly over time, which I think was around 2020. It was my best weapon before then if I was playing a lot. Having lots of 1 putts by getting close enough to have a good chance.

My 56 was my go to club, played mostly off the back foot with some forward shaft lean...I hardly ever ever chunked it by exposing that leading edge...just nipped it nicely, nice and low with a lot of spin after the second bounce. Extremely confident.

It has occurred to me why I have lost confidence. Around 2020 I got fitted and the fitter changed my wedges lie angles to 3 degrees flat, to match what I need for full swings. I didn't notice much difference at the time. I believe the yips developed with the slow increase in bad shots...until they became fairly common and really lost confidence in chipping and it became mental as well as technical.

I have since been refitted as I have lost a lot of speed due to aging and now have graphite shafts in everything...even my lob wedge. Lie angle still 3 degree flat. Compounding this problem, I am now in game improvement irons down to my 54...which unfortunately the ball comes off very hot with their trampoline like faces giving sweet FA feeling.

One of my sons (who has the same lie angles as me) was getting a lesson and said he was having bunker problems and the pro picked up his wedge and said he uses very flat lie angles and it can make it very hard. A light bulb went off in my peanut brain...maybe this is the root cause!

Anyway...I have been practicing a lot and am having some success mainly using my lob wedge as it is a normal head Muzuno T24...getting up and down quite a few times recently...playing a higher and softer shot. I even chipped in the other week for a birdie. Main things I am doing is having slightly higher hands and mostly the toe of the club on the turf...opening the club face slightly to give more bounce, making sure my right upper arm is attached to the side of my body, weight mostly on my lead foot...and most importantly pulling the handle through at and after contact so it doesn't stick in the surface.

I also have a beautiful surface at home for practice...although it is quite a tight lie, getting way more confident.

Superb work Scrappy. Ulnar deviation is so important in chipping. See Luke Donald here. Hard to do that with wedges that are three degrees flat!

Sounds like you have worked it out well. Your bunker play will likely be greatly improved too.

Got the prosendr kit….seemed to work ok the range first try.
Anyone else got it?
Any feedback appreciated
I’ve got one. Know it gets rave reviews but I still haven’t warmed to it. Reckon that for anyone who radially deviates their wrist(something many - especially oldies - do without knowing when seeking more extension) the brace alone would be a help. But that’s pretty specific.

Still plan on giving it more of a go.

Gone Critical loves his Temu Prosendr.

Currently in love with my Orange Whip, my Strike Wedge and my Putting Thing. Yes, I have a problem. And throwing money at it is the only answer.

3 degrees flat is pretty dramatic!

Social media seems to be flooded with ads for the TRS Slider. Can’t say I like the look of it
I've been getting hammered with this ad, could probably use it to help eliminate my over the top club path and subsequent slices but I figured I would try and mimic the movement myself at the range and see how I go.

Not sure I want to start going down the aid rabbit hole just yet.
