wonder how it would’ve looked if we were a better team?

i’ve always assumed we were in no hurry to rush crouch or tails back given the state of our side.
I think certainly with Crouch we've been upfront with him that if can 100% get up he'd be selected, but also doing the right thing for his future by saying if there's any hint of issues it's better for you to concentrate on recovery because you've got years of football ahead to worry about, rather than the next 3 months with us.

Even if that football isn't with us, they've at least been respectful enough to give him the time to get himself in the best possible shape for wherever he's going.

A real shame, sad for Daniel he’s a champion of our club and deserved a flag.

Seems to be he just couldn’t get back on the park, and the club has made the difficult but correct list management decision. If he’s able to get back playing then I’m not sure I’d agree with the decision, but on face value it seems right.

A wonderful player for the club. Takes Full Back in an all-time Crows team. Rarely beaten.
I agree with most of your post but feel Rutten had to beat better and did so.

Maybe sneak one in chb or bp

I don't think any 30 year old FA has registered any compo?

I maybe wrong but weren't Chad Cornes & Dean Brogan over 30 when poort ignominiously delisted them/forced them to retire ........ and then subsequently down the track bleated that they should get a compo priority draft pick virtually retrospectively .... i think they got pick 29? which they used to trade in Ebert

I think the end for Tails & Lynch has been handled in the most respectful way possible. Literally

no squirrelling round with offers, compensation, deciding what to do, ambiguities or other

just man conversations, clear, upfront and with our blessings to go out into the world and see if there is any interest.

gives the fans notice, and is just clear and straightforward

we’re a rebuilding side, we have no need for veterans at that stage of their career.

it’s such a respectful way to send them with off with the entire club and communities blessing I would not be surprised if this becomes the new standard for the right way to do things around the league

It's certainly a far cry from the day we announced Douglas retirement.

I would have given him another year
With the list supplementary rules in place I at least would have given him a pre-season to see if he could have at least played some more footy for the club, if he broke down again in pre-season, then he retires and you fill the spot then.

But is that fair on Talia?
It rules him out for the whole season.

The issue with Sloanes contract is that we are reticent to move him out of the guts because it'd mean our highest paid player was a HFF ( which Carlton doesn't have issues with but still). It was a strange call at the time where we coughed up big to stem the flow of players leaving the club but given the injury, he had at the time and his lack of effectiveness when tagged, it was both of the worst sins of contracts put together. You can pay a player too much, if the contract is short, or give a player a long contract if you don't pay much but to give one both, when he wasn't in the top 10 players in the league was just really poor from Reid
Sloane is a senior player at the end of a contract and career - it's very common for players to take on other roles late.

Also, if Sloane had left then as well, we probably would have had to shut down the club. You forget how things were. He's repaid the $100k a year extra that we paid him multiple times over.

So we gave Gibbs a farewell match against the Blues, but Talia won't get one. This part of it doesn't sit right with me.

It's a strange situation where an absolute champion of the club and loyal player and leader just faded away without closure.
This is a strange post.

Isaac Smith was band 5 compo last year.

It's interesting that all these players are "not being offered a contract" rather than retiring.

Either these players have already arranged to be picked up by other clubs or they called the clubs bluff and refused to retire so we delisted them instead.

Thank you Daniel Talia, not many more reliable defenders have pulled the boots on than you in the game. Rarely beaten in a 1-on-1 contest, and a great role model for the youngsters.

A real favourite of mine due to his reliability down back.

All the best and hope you can get some more games at a contending team should your body allow you too. (Bulldogs maybe???
Geelong.

They are letting go the veterans who we have replacements for. Cook for Lynch. Butts for Talia. D Mac is irreplaceable, it seems. Also, as an aside, who thinks we do better this year with Hartigan in the side?

Surely - SURELY Gold Coast should be on the phone right now. There will literally not be a free agent that would better suit where they are at at this time. If they want back half leadership like Hodge - Talia can offer that and he can also stop the opposition key forwards that so often get off the leash and destroy GC on game days
...and stay in Lukos' ear.😋

Even the last couple of years, the reports Talia was very sore between games was well known ....I'm sure he played a lot of games under duress

It was the right call ....and whilst I doubt Talia would move for a 12 month Contract, at 29 yo he should be able to secure a 2 year Contract in Victoria, close to his parents
And to play out that 2 years he'll be injected full of pain killers to keep him on the park and this board will be accusing the AFC of not being able to manage his injuries, wanting to sack the fitness and medical staff.
