so taken another way, we’ve lost almost all of our grand final team from 5 years ago

and the effect on ridding ourselves of all of these good players has been what exactly? 🥄

To be fair we were playing pretty shit football 4 years ago with mostly all of those guys and it certainly wasn't going to get better with them, maybe just worse more slowly.

im just saying that if you take the top side, and then remove all their good players - what would you expect the result to be?

take it in isolation, in a vacuum if you like: what do you think happens?

what did happen? Seems an odd flex that’s all

just the senior players? No interest in the backbone and crusher groups Dan? Nup, there's definitely no senior player culture issue at our club.
I think we're interpreting him wrong.
He wants to have a drink with Billy, Nick and Jordan...you know....the players who are replacing him in the "senior" team.😋

Not looking for excuses for Daniel. but SA requires quarantine for anyone from Vic. So what I took from Daniels statement was he was heading to Vic to negotiate with clubs and medicals and won't be able to come back and forth while quarantine measures are in place. Plus isn't the Crows club champion around October? So I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to quarantine for a B and F

Nobody is going to be doing any in person negotiations with anyone in Victoria at the moment.

I can sort of understand that, they are his close mates, he listed players such as laird, kelly, lynch & sloane as players he was close to as he’s played with them for 12 years.

Oh yeah, it certainly isn't something to be jazzed about. It really highlights the terrible list management from 2015 onwards in my opinion. To have so many huge contracts on near 30 or 30+ players was really poor management and probably prevented us from easily keeping players like Keath and Greenwood, who would have been very useful.

It's still an odd distinction to make on the face of it. Why not just say, "the boys" or something similar. By saying, "senior player" he's excluding most of the list. It's not something you hear very often.

Not trying to pile in on Talia but I found this comment interesting last week. I would of hoped he had started doing this by now.

"DANIEL TALIA | I got mentored by Ben Rutten when I first came into the club and he gave me the respect. I was going to repay the favour and do the same with younger players now."

If taken literally, he's saying he's been holding back on mentoring but would have started if re-signed. And that it might have to do with not having respect for the kids till now? Weird shit, maybe he just gets his words muddled a bit.

So he mixed up his words.
Seems a common thing for the seniors down there 😆

If you respect the kids you qould prioritise them and mentor them until the season end

I think it's a fair distinction that we were a poor side when most of the players were taken out though. CC and Lever were losses from a good side. The rest from a side that had been good in the past.

I've always thought that when we re-sign guys at their peak (26-27) for 4 or 5 years we apply that max yearly rate across the full contract. When you've got a group that's gotten close to success and a few hitting the end at the same time, you're desperate to keep them together and they're all earning max $ but delivering average then it's a bit of a perfect storm.

Im a bit pissed and fed up at this behaviour

The club has been under fire from the media for 3 years now, I get it that Daniel is disappointed however over his career the club has been good to him.....

Although he is disappointed for Dan to now throw some fuel to the media is super poor form and lacks class....

Look at Trelor last year and hiw disgraceful Collingwopd were, and how they claimed the Senior Leaders did not want him.

Not once did Trelor bag out the club, he dealt with the situation with class, he said that he was angry how it played out but said he still loved the club and his time at the club

Sorry Dab, this lacks class and smells of desperation

Maybe you can't respect them until they prove themselves at the level. Which is hard to do until you're either long term injured or on your last legs yourself. It actually fits comfortably with what we've heard in the past and the recent Sauce/ROB experience.

I can understand Talia might be upset, but I think he may live to regret going out like this.
After all he’s either going to bow out now due to no offers or he’ll play at a club for 2-3 years.
That’s not where he’ll be remembered or his club.
Could be a lonely/awkward after footy life.

I haven't listened yet, so could be off the mark. But if he's saying there's cultural problems it's odd that the only people he intends to have a catch up with are the senior players who drive the culture. Apart from Roo, every other influential role at footy dept level has been replaced plus the CEO. Unless it's a new culture problem then the issue would logically be owned by the only people he's interested in having a beverage with. Unless he's referring to non-footy dept stuff.

The couple of pieces I picked out of it were

He hadn’t had a chance to catch up with the team after the game (I assume due to covid) but keen to catch up with the seniors for some beers.
Won’t go to the bnf due to alcohol, not the sort of event he needs to be going to when he needs to train.

keen to play on to show certain people that he still has a few years left.

not as bullish as some people at the club or supporters on our finals chances next year due to certain things that need to be improved behind the scenes.

Dillon called it a ‘drive by’ while Rucci was cracking a fat smelling another derogatory story defending Talia and basically encouraging him.

Privileged senior player gets rightfully axed - comes up with innuendos about culture. The irony is, this kind of ‘behaviour’ being part of that culture.

This is a severe case of sour grapes.

I think it was Ben Hart a few years back who was asked about the kids and said we wouldn't play them for the sake of playing them, they had to have proved that they can play at the top level.

So to get a game, they had to prove themselves at AFL level, by never being picked in the AFL side.
