Your senior players are a big part of a clubs culture journey, I can see why Nicks wants to clear the deck

Nicks wants to clear the decks so much he continually selected these senior players all year when they are injured and clearly hampered.

Our current captain who came out publicly and fully supported/endorsed the camp - which clearly had most of the playing group offside, is a big part of club culture, as others have said sooner the 2017 guys are all gone the better.

But if Nicks keeps persisting with his senior player selection at all cost mantra our culture aint going to improve, we need to bring the whole team along for the journey.

Is it hard to reconcile?

The club sacked him, he's "shattered" and probably pissed off. Why would he want to attend their events any more?

Because he played for the jumper and loves everything that the club has afforded him to be... when the money stops the colours show.

Great decision to move him on.

It's a fine line for coaches. You need buy in but you also need to make the right decisions. Too heavy on the buy in element and you end up making popular calls rather than correct calls.

However if you make really prudent, unemotional calls then you can get players offside quickly.

I mentioned Blight and he has the gravitas to come in and do things his way - who is anyone to question? When you're a newbie it's more difficult to make an unpopular but correct decision. No runs on the board.

FWIW I think Nicks has done a reasonable job taking over a club that was mid-plummet. We've levelled out without imploding. Whether we can rise with him...? Early days Bolton and early days Teague were seen to be on the right track. Once expectations ramped up a fraction though they fell short.

Honestly it seems like list management have decided to save Nicks from himself.

His selection strategy seems to directly contradict our list management strategy.

He is responsible for engaging past players and welcoming them back into the club. He’s even managed to get both Macca and Edwards back into the fold.

That Brad continues to get blamed for Stengle being out on a coke bender amuses me given what followed. It's just as likely Stengle had Brad out on a bender. It's weird ageism, noth8ng more. It just must have been the older guy corrupting the younger guy. Obviously Stengle hadn't ever seen cocaine until Brad dragged him to that alleyway that morning.

They changed it up massively after the first month where we were 1-3. We went 7-3 after the loss to the Roos, then the bye came, Pyke tinkered again and outside of blowing out the Suns we were terrible.
