The media is back at it again with manufactured rivalries. First it was Carlton, now it's Richmond.
Exactly. Since when is Richmond a rival? We've only ever played one important game against them

I had a hunch this was happening, he wasn’t able to get on the park due to injuries :(

I wish him all the best!
So do I. So when he signs a three year deal for around the 750 to 800 we were paying him are we gonna get a better compensation pick than Brad Crouch?

750 to 800 could be in the ball park for tier 1 (pick 5) compo if it's for a reasonable number of years (maybe his age tells agaisnt it but). Probably RFC wont give him that much unfort.

Don’t we only get some compo if he is signed as a RFA? If they wait long enough and we are forced to delist him, we get nothing as a DFA. Have Richmond got any players leaving under FA and potential compensation of their own to protect?

Does the same compensation formula apply to delisted free agents? Or is compensation only for restricted / unrestricted free agents? I was under the impression that you didn't get any compensation for DFA's, only RFA/UFA, but I can't actually find a clear answer either way.

Not sure - recent posts here haven't been able to conclude whether we'd get compo if Tals signs with another club.

[thumbing thru AFL Rules] from section 4.8 Players Bound if Listed:

(b) If a contract between a Club and a Player expires on 31 October in any year, the
Player shall remain registered as a Player of and be bound to the Club until the
conclusion of the National Draft Selection Meeting in the relevant year. This
Rule does not apply if the Club deletes the Player’s name from its List during the
period 31 October until the time and day when the de-listed Player is able to
nominate for the National Draft Selection Meeting under Rule 6.2(c).

So just because we're not offering Tals a new contract, he's not necessarily -deleted- delisted ( :laughv1: ) right away.

Also, from Fox article AFL trade state of play: The big list calls every club is facing ahead of exchange period, it states:

Daniel Talia will not be offered a new contract as he finished up the monster five-year deal he signed in 2016. He is one of two high-profile unrestricted free agents at the club, with ...

Article doesn't list any Richmond free agents leaving.

When does the FA window open? Before 31 October?

Apologies for coming in so late, but I am all of 24 pages behind.

I'd appreciate some brief answers, or a summary, please:
Talia has said he's got 3 or 4 years still in him at the highest level. Why did the Crows not offer him a contract?
Is there some kind of ill-feeling between Talia and Nicks (who has admitted to clashing with Seeds last year)?

Hasn’t managed to get on the park after a knee issue, and for most of this year a foot injury, for over 12 months.
Crows have a backlog of KPD’s that we need to get games into.
This really was a fairly simple, albeit harsh from his perspective, list management decision.
The media, Talia, and a lot of BigFooty posters, have made this out to be a bit more than it is.

Also, if he gets picked up in the free agency period, and he’s offered more than $450k a year, we’re likely to see some sort of minimum compensation.

The de-listed free agency period doesn’t start until some time after the free agency period.

Who knows, he could come to an agreement with a club to simply wait until the DFA period to be picked up, but you’d imagine clubs would just pick them up in the FA period without running the risk of other clubs coming in with offers between then and the DFA period

Just my guess

Of course that's what Talia woukd say, what else is he going to say when he wants to extend his football career and earnings

All we can go on is current evidence which is he broke down on several occassions this year, did not play a game in 2021 and struggled with injury in 2020

I don't recall reading about a clash with Seed. Did read the opposite where for weeks there was no convo at all. Seed thought Nicks didn't want him there and Nicks thought Seed didn't want to be there. Seed was dropped twice last year, so surprising they weren't communicating, but then I guess we had Godden as our gun midfield coach to do that.

Not if a FA contract is lodged during free agency window. He'll not be delisted by then. We should have moved him to the rookie list instead of Mackay, then we wouldn't have to delist him until last List lodgement per rookie draft.
