Does this give anyone else Melbourne Carlton and North Melbourne rebuild vibes?
Nope… cant get his body right
and we have Butts, mcasey and frampton actually showed signs he could be great depth we can bring in from the sanfl if required..

Actually giving him another contract at this point would be dumb.

for those saying "I hope you find success at another team" surely that will prove what an error the club has made, given that we are bottom of the ladder and putrid in defence?

Our defence has been the strongest part of the team this year.
Butts has stepped up and done an excellent job, thats why we don't need Talia next year

One of our best leaders. A shame he couldn't play this year.

But when you look at our KPD stocks seeing Murray and Butts form a pretty good duo and McAsey/Worrell unable to get a game it makes sense to move him on.

I hope another club picks him up. Lynch too.

Our defence is rated 17th for scores against but I think that is more reflective of our midfield constantly putting our backline under pressure. It is a work in progress still but has battled hard this year and we do have the right mix in there.

Would you rather 22 games for Murray next year or Talia?

We are not contending next year. Those games are better played by a developing player.

It's fair to say it backfired on us by continuing to play him injured last year in a spoon winning season.

**** knows why we are doing the same thing with Sloane now. We never learn.

They're entirely separate.

With us, we've seen what the world without Talia looks like. Butts has pretty much performed at a similar click to Tals this year, taking the shutdown jobs and for the most part, doing them well, and Murray has shown he's got a bright future at centre halfback, seeing he's performing rather admirably despite coming to the club late in pre-season (and potentially, there is a fair bit of improvement in him as well, as those aren't ideal conditions for performance). Considering we're in a rebuild, and potentially a 10-year key back pairing has just fallen into our lap, we'd be mad to potentially ruin it by bringing back a 30-year-old who'd end up getting game time over them.

It's a shame Talia is not getting the ending he deserved here, and because of that, I hope he goes on to emulate Brian Lakes last couple of years at Hawthorn.

Calling it now, Sloane will miss a lot of games next year and the same decision will happen with him. Really can't see Sloane playing out his contract.

Is there a stat for goals conceded and one on one wins?

Butts would be one of the best in the league for that metric.

Murray improving as well.

surely people have seen us torched by "Superstars" such as Coleman-Jones, Kochitchke, Taberner etc on an almost weekly basis this year. If he goes on to play 30+ games elsewhere, i think we've made a serious error

That is the stat for goals conceded and yeah I agree with you Butts would be up there for one on one wins and Murray is improving. Those two aren't really the issue, it's the players around them that are.

I don’t really know how thieve things work, but is there a chance they’ve already received offers from other clubs and we’ve already decided we won’t match them?

We're still not really sure on this space, but from reading the rules a few of us don't think they're not actually classed as a de-listed free agent until AFTER the Free Agency period. If an offer for either of them comes in during the Free Agency period, then we may possibly be given compensation.

Some wording under AFL Rules:

If a contract between a Club and a Player expires on 31 October in any year, the Player shall remain registered as a Player of and be bound to the Club until the conclusion of the National Draft Selection Meeting in the relevant year. This Rule does not apply if the Club deletes the Player’s name from its List during the period 31 October until the time and day when the de-listed Player is able to nominate for the National Draft Selection Meeting under Rule 6.2(c).

This ruling would indicate that both players would technically still remain 'Crows players' during the Free Agency period, and be subject to compensation.

Otherwise both of these decisions would be very unusual/premature in giving up ANY chance of compensation.

Anyone from other team boards be able to clarify?

Not much we can do if he can't actually get out on the park, though :( I can only assume his injury is terminal for his career and he'll retire. If he was capable of playing on at a decent level next year then surely we'd keep him around. He's at the older end of our list, but certainly not at a completely over-the-hill age - would be 30 next season. If he goes somewhere else and comes out playing good footy next year then some people at our club are going to have some very hard questions to answer about why they cut a club great because of 1 injury-plagued season.
Dude if he cant get in the park how can that be facilitated? Honestly the club are doing the right thing.
He's injured............

I know all this, and I know there isn't much the club can do. Just feels odd.

There is a stat for one-on-one losses. Butts on average loses 32% of one-on-one contests. Talia has always batted around 17-22% when it's been calculated, however, the stat was first taken in 2013.

There is a fair bit of work for Butts to do to catch up to Talia in that regard, but of course, its been a baptism by fire that Jordon had to put up with.

In prior years, all delisted free agents have come after the October 31 date (usually first of November). You can't delist players before that date so they would indeed be Crows players during the normal free agency period.

The question is whether a club would put an offer in during this period knowing they will be delisted and they could pick them up in the later period

The club would have intimate knowledge of his injury. Hasn’t played in a year and was struggling big time with it last year.

You can rightly accuse the club of a bunch of stuff ups in the past couple of years but this and the Lynch decision isn’t one of them. A harsh but correct call.

so we move on a 29 year old and a 30 year old, whilst the rest of the comp is full of players over this age.

Not those that can't get on the park it's not.
Sad end to a great clubman and an absolute fastidious preparer but if anyone was going to get their body right through rehab/prep he was the prime candidate.
