Trigger Warning:

Congrats to David Mackay who will sign a new 1 year deal this week.

Surely - SURELY Gold Coast should be on the phone right now. There will literally not be a free agent that would better suit where they are at at this time. If they want back half leadership like Hodge - Talia can offer that and he can also stop the opposition key forwards that so often get off the leash and destroy GC on game days

It's a genuine shame to see a long-term stalwart leave as a DFA (I assume he'll get a gig elsewhere), but it was always on the cards with how this year panned out. I do hope a team like Melbourne, or Western Bulldogs throw him a lifeline and he can get that elusive flag before time runs out.

That said, it's probably the biggest reward we could give Butts and Murray for their respective 2021 campaigns.

Does this give anyone else Melbourne Carlton and North Melbourne rebuild vibes?

Not at the moment. This is just playing a rebuild with a straight bat. You have kids who have shown they have a bright future, and you get rid of the roadblocks, even if they are good players in their own right.

If we start wholesale recruiting mediocre footballers from other clubs it will, seeing that was the trap Carlton and Melbourne fell into. Both panicked, and tried to get a finals appearance through trading, instead of seeing it as something earned through development. Naturally, it kicked them right back to the bottom.

It's pretty similar to North 2020-2021, though we were a year ahead of them with burning the list.

Would seem like if he is to get another gig then it will be as a delisted FA, picked up pre-season subject to demonstrating fitness to be able to play in 2022. We’ll get nothing as compensation and he probably won’t earn that much if the club concerned has a tight cap.

Disappointing end to a magnificent Crows career.

So we gave Gibbs a farewell match against the Blues, but Talia won't get one. This part of it doesn't sit right with me.

It's a strange situation where an absolute champion of the club and loyal player and leader just faded away without closure.

Not much we can do if he can't actually get out on the park, though :( I can only assume his injury is terminal for his career and he'll retire. If he was capable of playing on at a decent level next year then surely we'd keep him around. He's at the older end of our list, but certainly not at a completely over-the-hill age - would be 30 next season. If he goes somewhere else and comes out playing good footy next year then some people at our club are going to have some very hard questions to answer about why they cut a club great because of 1 injury-plagued season.

Dude if he cant get in the park how can that be facilitated? Honestly the club are doing the right thing.

I'd say he has a deal with another club, otherwise I think he would have come out and said he was retiring

I wonder in announcing the end for Lynch and Talia in this way that we are not expecting any free agent offers.

I would have thought Talia might have some value on the free agent market (even if it's a late second or third round pick).

But these announcements make it sound like we're just delisting them and they'll be DFAs

I don’t really know how these things work, but is there a chance they’ve already received offers from other clubs and we’ve already decided we won’t match them?

Should have been made captain at some point. One of the few senior players who didn't just tow the company line.

Will hurt a bit seeing him running around for someone else, even if it is the correct decision.

wtf.

Surely there is trade value here and we are screwing ourselves.

Out of contract and a free agent.

There is precisely 0 trade value here, and we're just relying on a compensation pick for Daniel, if we even get one.

Very sad with the decision. I understand it from a list management point of view, but I would have loved to have seen him play another year and help mentor the young backline.

I think he definitely still has a year or too left in his body. If he can get that right then he would be a great addition to a contending team that is lacking a key defender.

Thanks for everything over your career Daniel, one of the best defenders we have ever had.

Not particularly with Carlton they have kept veterans like Murphy and Kruezer for way longer than they should have. We need to be ruthless if we are to get anywhere. I do agree we have to get rid of Mackay next because if we keep him it just would not make sense. I am disappointed we didn't try blooding a Kelly replacement this year otherwise I would've been comfortable with him going as well.

for those saying "I hope you find success at another team" surely that will prove what an error the club has made, given that we are bottom of the ladder and putrid in defence?

He'll get a lap of honour, I don't even think he is fit enough to get a farewell game and if he does want to play on that'll decrease his value if he reinjures himself.
