Re: **** this team

I don't particularly condone the title of this thread as it reflects a highly emotional response to disappointment, (which is understandable) and I believe that we need to remain calm. BUT LET ME JUST SAY that it really does upset me...

What upsets me is that we are just not good enough and that the game winners are just not present. We have reliable midfielders, we have a fairly competitive ruck and our backline is acceptable, (concedes many 'easy' goals through unmarked forwards, fumbles, loose marking, etc.). We do not have any forwards, (johnson can't mark anymore, Minson is unreliable although Mitch is worthy of a mention on occasions)...

West Coast has done what all the other teams we have lost to have done... Tag our midfielders and block the central corridor and guess what??? We lose... I believe our season is shot... It all started with the loss against the Saints. That basically emphasised that we aren't as good as what we all thought and that the stat that we have not beaten any teams above or even just below us, is an accurate indictor that we are just not good enough.

Our depth isn't that great if you look beyond Ward as the likes of Grant, Stack and Everitt aren't cutting the mustard, (talk about jumping the gun in awarding him our sacred no. 3). The only shining light is that Murph, Gia and Missy, weren't available... A difference perhaps in this game but what can we say about the games against the Saints, Cats, Pies etc....???

I can't be bothered finding excuses as my optimism is really drawing thin..... A GOOD TEAM THAT HAS A WINNING CULTURE WINS GAMES THAT ARE THERE TO BE WON!!!! WE SHOULD'VE CHEWEDTHEM UP AND SPAT THEM OUT!!!...

Regardless of how you look at it, we are not good enough and it will be a waste of emotion, if we were to pin our hopes on the Dogs in the finals. This team can't deliver the flag.... No matter what the players and coaches say...

The results are the facts... And the facts are there for everyone to see!!!!

it is just so frustrating to support this football team. I expected us to overrun west coast all day today, but im glad it did not happen because its time we lost a game like this and hopefully learn from it. I know we have a heap of goalkickers to come back, but look at st kilda today 6 or 7 of there best out and still won easy. Dissapointing day to be a doggies fan, but it is like every year, they give us false hope and then will go into the finals and get knocked out with barley a whimper.

Its time we did something about the team, we will not win a premiership with eagelton in the team, stick up for him all you like but he is SOFT and letting this club down. Continue to play him if you choose rocket but us supporters and the club will continue to watch a mediocre team let us down week in week out with these players like eagelton playing.

Top 4 looks gone, we have to wonder what will happen from here, but not looking forward to it anymore.

Re: **** this team

To think I have paid good money to go and watch these pretenders next week in Brissy.. :(

I hope to christ Eagleton isnt playing next week!

Please, would you rather be watching Hawthorn play like a rabble week in week out for the entire of 2009?

You guys are playing finals just be greatful, mean while us Hawks fans are puliing out our hair and seeing pyschologist to heal the pain of 2009...

Re: **** this team

I absolutely agree, minters. We're clearly not good enough, and it seems highly likely with our draw that we'll drop out of the top four.

What is it about this club that seems to continually produce a culture that an honourable loss is good enough? To qoute Terry Wallace from Year of the Dog, "If I see one more guy getting a pat on the back for a good effort I'll spew up!".

At least our expectations are lowered before the finals..

The difference is that when you have a bad season like this one, you can pull out your dvds of the 2008, 1991, 1989 etc premierships.. What can bulldogs fans do? The closest thing we've had since JFK was assassinated is a 2 point prelim loss to adelaide.

Let's face it , we were going to struggle to make top 4 when todays game was put down as a gimme. Now we have no hope whatsoever. Thanks for another wasted season, you're on your own from here. Tom Williams please give up, you have no idea.

At least you guys know how to play in finals and even win them, the last time we had a team that could've challenged for the flag was in 85, and the big difference between then and now is that then we had a FULL FORWARD:cool:

Please Please Please give me some-

Evidence that Tom Williams is closer to being a reasonable AFL player than Karmichael Hunt

Evidence that our "accept mediocrity" selection policy has any value

Evidence that Everitt, and Addison are better players than Sam Reid

Evidence that we are closer to a flag than we were in 2006

Please give me some hope.I have supported them for 47 years, I've got a shocking case of gout and I am filthy

Re: **** this team

Not gone. You lot are paethic.

We used to do this all the time , lose games we should win .Then when our backs are too the wall and are underdogs , we come out and win.

We had one bad day in front of goals and some players, next week it will be back to normal. I can see us easily beating Brisbane , collingwood and geelong who we gave a bloody good run for thier money , only losing marginly

Re: **** this team

Absolute shit performance. The chance of september was right up there again after Geelong got whooped by Carlton... then this happens. What a disgrace, Tom Williams is shit, Andrejs Everitt is shit, Dylan Addison is shit, Eagleton is probably the worst player getting a game out of any club.

Rocket is starting to remind me of Matthew Knights 2008, he never punishes the spuds, he's just hanging on to them like Knights did with Laycock.

When a team loses three of its best forwards (Murphy, Gia, and Higgins) you really find out who is up to it. It is especially evident in games like this where someone has to step up and break it open. What we saw today is that Hahn is our weakest link. For someone with his experience and supposed leadership, this bloke is the worst 150 game player I have seen at the Dogs. He normally thrives against poor opposition (see Essendon a few weeks ago). But once again he gets found out when the going gets tough. We have seen the best (if you can call it that) from this down hill skier and it is time for him to be passed over. There are a few in the wings waiting for the chance. At least they have potential.

At the other end of the ground, we have the project or experimental player Williams. What a disaster this has been! I have compared him to Craig Ellis. I was wrong on that score. Ellis could play a bit. We have also seen the best from Williams. It is not that good and there is nothing more to see.

Send them off the Gold Coast.

How is that?

Have you been taking the Delorian out for a spin?

Did you really think that a mentally fragile team with a dwarf forward line and a game plan/style which breaks down under finals like pressure would go far?

IMO, this team has either gone backwards or we've been really worked out.

IIRC the only top 8 team we've beaten is the Crows, and their team is much improved since then.

My sentiments exactly. Unfortunately it took today to finally come to the realisation we are making up the numbers for a lot of supporters. I have enjoyed our good wins especially the Hawthorn game and I do hope we atleast have a crack in the next couple of weeks but I feel likes it Ground Hog day and I am back in 2007.

Eagleton does not let the Club down. Its the idiots who select him who let the club down.

Don't even think about comparing Hawthorn to the Bulldogs.

You would have no idea what it's like to follow the Bulldogs.

In 1989 our club was nearly went out of existence while your team won back-to-back flags.

As was previously stated, you have the 2008 GF DVD to look at and we have nothing.

You'll get no sympathy on this board, in fact I couldn't care less about what has happened to the Hawks this year.

Delusion:
A delusion is an unshakable belief in something untrue. These irrational beliefs defy normal reasoning, and remain firm even when overwhelming proof is presented to dispute them. Delusions are often accompanied by hallucinations and/or feelings of paranoia, which act to strengthen confidence in the delusion. Delusions are distinct from culturally or religiously based beliefs that may be seen as untrue by outsiders.

There's a bright side? I won't be wasting my money on finals tickets, I supposed thats a plus

Bloody hell man, that's a bit hysterical.

We were dreadful today, but this sort of reactionary madness is pretty amazing, in my opinion, and to get as vicious about our own players is something that I had previously thought was above Bulldogs supporters.

They look really flat and exhausted to me, and this seems to be a reasonably common sight for the Dogs at this stage of the year going on seasons past.

I would have given Skipper a run against Fremantle and WCE and said 'this is your chance, you have two weeks' but that appears not to have happened. But, I'm pretty confident in saying that a lack of a key forward wasn't the issue today - [edit - Minson spent quite some time in the forward line today]

The disposal was terrible. Players seemed to consistently either:

a) make the wrong decisions generally
b) be very willing to give off hospital handballs to others under huge pressure
c) simply bang the ball on the boot and hope for the best, which I reckon is a sure fire indication of fatigue.

Of considerable concern to me is:

- the backline still seems to malfunction. There were numerous occasions today where defenders were caught in two minds about which Eagle to pick up, because they were the only player there. It led to several 2 on 1s which cost us goals.
- Brian continues to make some really fundamental decision making errors. I thought he was good at times, but when he has a brain fade, it is ultra massive.
- Messrs Cooney, Griffin seem really flat. Whenever Cooney came off the ground he looked nackered. This affects the performance of others, such as Boyd and Cross.
- the propensity to kick really quickly [edit - without considering the options up forward]
- the inability to run the ball out and the flow on effect that they overused the ball to the point of butchering it with the resulting turnovers.

We have a horrible next three weeks, but we are still in it and as capable as we are of putting in very ordinary efforts like this, we are also capable of putting in performances like that against Hawthorn in the first half.

We are a confidence team, and we rely on our run and dash, which is very hard to turn on like a tap when you are flat and when you seem to be lacking creativity and spark.

Let's hope they can recapture the vibe, and that our players don't adopt the attitude which seems to be prevalent here that the whole season is f-d and pack it in.

Re: **** this team

Embarrassed, thats how I feel.

Just when you think this team was gonna have a real crack at this years flag they go and lose to a bottom team who has not won in melb for 3 seasons a month out frm the finals. I actually felt we were gonna drop this game, just had that feeling. I believe the problem lies with our second tier players ie Williams, Addison, Everitt, Minson etc...they are jst not up to it, they try, but trying is not gonna win u games. Their skill level is embarrassing at times, they panic and continually make the wrong decision. As a team, we crumble under pressure, our starts are deplorable, and we are mentally fragile. The only player who performs well week in week out is Matthew Boyd. He single handedly brought us back into the game, his cool head under pressure is up there with the best players in the league. Even when he is tackled he still manages to give it off to a bulldog player in space..maybe the rest of the team can pull their finger out and take a leaf out of Boydy's book.

.

I wasn't at the game so I am relying on radio coverage and past performances. It seems simple to me - WCE had Kennedy at CHF. Kennedy kicked 4 goals . WCE won. Even if he didn't kick goals they had a reason to go forward, a reason to go direct and their other forwards knew where the ball was going most times they went forward.

Our lack of a big forward means we do not have a get out of jail free card and never get an easy goal or have a plan B. Until we play a big bloke up forward we will always lose the tight ones for this reason and fail under finals pressure.

If Akers efforts today can't lift these guys(insert metally week). Then nothing will. Surely you understand our attitude is only a reflection of what we see on the field. I think the adopt the vibe ship has already sailed and the Saints put a big hole in the port bow. Its man the life boats because this ship is sinking fast.

Yes, that's fair. I might add that I do think we need one, especially in finals, but I don't think it was the factor today.

There are many ways to skin a cat aren't there? You could very easily just say that if we kicked straight we would have won... We had something like 10 points on the board before we kicked a goal.... But we didn't kick straight and we lost and accordingly, every conceivable problem that we have, plus the obvious lack of big man up forward gets put out for examination. Which is understandable, but my opinion is that there were other reasons for today...

It is amazing to think how at the start of this year we were all calling Tom Williams our 'saviour' - that if he could just get his body right, he'd be the missing link between us and that elusive Premiership. And now? Well, he's apparently shit, needs to go back to playing rugby and is basically a 2009 version of Craig Ellis.

Look, I don't really know how I feel about Williams anymore either - he had a bloody awful day but I hate to think that he's done.

In regards to the rest of the team - I think it's pretty much all been said.

Something was up today - nothing worked for them. There were loose Eagles grabbing clean possessions everywhere, it just killed us. And you're all right about the disposals - very, very messy stuff.

I've been pretty shattered since the time the siren went to now. But, as delusional as this might seem, I'm just going to hope that this loss wakes them all up, and that they can produce the awesome footy we all know they're capable of over the next 3 weeks.

We're all pretty disappointed, but as others have said, the sun will still come up tomorrow - it's not over yet.

I don't want to "take on the board" but one of the reasons I rarely visit bigfooty is because it is SOOOOOOO negative.

I don't understand the attitude because it is illogical to me. Surely you accept that what you see on the field is not a conscious conspiracy to play badly, but rather that sometimes the players can't put it together? There is merit and reason behind talking about why it happens, and where we can improve and who ought to play where and so forth, but to come out with the kind of outlandish "F This I'm not going to the finals because the players aren't putting in" stuff is childish and is pretty easy to type from the comfort of one's computer.

The sort of vitriol that happens here is stupid. I would urge people, before they type, to ask themselves, and answer honestly, whether they'd be comfortable saying what they type to the player in question's face. I would bet that half the tripe wouldn't occur.

I understand the frustration! It was horrible to watch our top 4 chances suffer a massive, probably fatal blow, but let's be sensible before we go questioning the commitment of our players... As I said, I thought we were better than that.
