Review Good, bad and Talia v West Coast

If McHenry or McAdam can do a role up forward that allows Milera to play Midfield then that could be enough to change the fate of the team.
At some stage Pyke has to pull the trigger on Fogarty, McAdam, McHenry, Scholl etc because its obvious the current brigade can't get the job done.
Not McAdam. Not fit enough for seniors. Stengle would be a better choice.
Ditto Fogarty who hasn't turned 20 yet and is still building a tank. SANFL form not strong enough.
I'd like to see McHenry and Stengle given a go (in place of Jones and Gallucci), for the reason you stated --- the current mob are not getting the job done.
"Nearly" doesn't get 4 points.

I raised the same point. The face-fend is a free kick (high contact), or should have been.
I'm not sure about the chest-push, which Kennedy did when the ball was on its way, not within 5m (or is it 10m?). What's the rule on that?
Two of Kennedy's goals were dubious. One was the result of him fending off Talia's face. The other was the result of Darling playing pinball, knocking both Hartigan & Talia out of the marking contest, without ever looking at the ball. Both should have been Adelaide frees - high contact, and shepherding in the marking contest.

If you think Jones, and Gallucci are future pieces for this club (I'd say I see both of them in our midfield long term), then you stick with them. They're not the difference between winning and losing, more just getting game time and learning how to handle the rigours of AFL football before a move to somewhere where they can actually influence games. It'd be switching deck chairs on the titanic, nothing more.

Stengle should come in, but for Betts. Not a move that'd help us in 2019, but at this point, the season is already bordering on a lost cause (and with a piss easy draw, that just shows how far we've fallen). .500 team, not getting the job done against top 8 sides (and not pretenders like Port/Saints) are not things which are conducive to being successful, just merely existing.

Jones, Gallucci, McHenry and Stengle (Fog, too) will get better and do have a future in our senior side, but Jones and Gallucci (I was a Gooch fan, but not so much now) have had a fair crack at the big time and only make up numbers. Jones moves and tackles like a natural footballer but needs some muscle and has to stop positioning himself to be a stepladder. At least twice he was under the ball, waiting, and became a WCE's player's soft mat to climb on to mark.
They do not impact games, intercept, break lines or change the momentum of a game. Gooch shows dash, but his disposal is poor; needs to lower his eyes.
Bluntly, they are not helping us win.

So, Pyke has to look elsewhere and keep trying youth like Stengle and McHenry (this week, please) to see if they can hack it, impact games and help the team to win.
Looks like he hasn't got the mix right, yet, added to which is the drop-off in form of Tex, Eddie, the even worse form of JJ and Jekyll'n'Gibbs, plus Laird is getting more attention and three of our backmen consistently give away freebie goals every week (Hartigan/Kelly/Talia).

Of course they are just making up the numbers, as would Stengle and McHenry should we select them here. Not all positions are equal, nor do all positions allow for consistent performance. There are positions that for the vast majority of every game where you are nothing more than a body which exists on a football field, and a smaller half forward in Adelaide's lineup who isn't a specialist defensive forward and not named Betts, is that as you are very reliant on the middle ground of semi-poor ball movement, and your midfield being dominant (too good of ball movement will see you ignored for KPFs and Betts/Murphy should be around them, and you don't have a hope in hell of being involved if your midfield is getting belted due to you being reliant on supply). Goochs disposal is more than adequate when he does lower his eyes, which he usually does, something that first half against West Coast showed (I'm still a fan, but I am very forgiving to performance for kids playing as a half forwards, it's a wasteland for a reason).

Gooch and Jones are meeting expectations because there are effectively none here, just run in a disciplined manner and try to show signs of promise the occasional chance that you have got (100% a non statistical role, and you want kids doing those roles). It's just to pump games into them, get them used to upholding structures and prepare them for a switch to a position where they could actually have the chance to have an impact on us winning outside of the minuscule midfield minutes both gets currently as our 8th/9th midfielder.

Was that the one Darling fell over and the umpire paid the holding free?

Eddie Betts on track for 44 goals.

Currently 8th higher goalscorer in the league (2 goals off 5th spot!)

Reports of his demise has been grossly exaggerated. Get both Betts and Stengle together and we have 2 very dangerous small forward options.
Yep, he might not be at his elite level but he’s at a very acceptable level for a small forward.

No, it was a clean mark to Kennedy... or it would have been if not for the shenanigans going on behind him.

Darling came in from the side. He slammed into Hartigan first, pushing him backwards, then he cannoned into Talia, propelling him sideways out of the contest. At no point did Darling look at the ball.

With Talia & Hartigan taken out of the contest (illegally), Kennedy took an uncontested mark.

I remember that one

He gets inside and grabs the ball, and then lacks any of the attributes that could be used to get the ball out in a useful way. He hasn't been working hard enough without the ball, he can't hit a target for ****, he has no pace at all, and he lacks for size. Greenwood and CEY are both better options in the midfield than Brad Crouch right now, and really I'd be dropping him and Jones for his brother and Gibbs next week, if they're both fit.

I mean the one time he successfully broke away from a centre bounce with the ball and room to run into on our 50 arc, he shanked the ball off the side of his boot to the boundary line. Sums him up really.
