Review Good/Bad vs Port Adelaide - Rd 21

Himmelberg didn't mark the ball once in the entire match. He's not the answer

And yet still influenced the contest.

I'm still trading him at the end of the year and I feel his value just rose a little.

Last time was Lycett being dirty , tonight is just an accident. Can't go getting filthy over a football accident just because it's a Port player.
Some players have form... & not everything is a bad luck...

Good

Shoenberg
Jones
The backs were generally very good (except for McPherson)
Massive effort from the team in a difficult week

Bad

Murphy -did nothing
Thilthorpe -will be good, but mostly a non-entity today (bad delivery does him no favours)
Still handballing to stationary players and over handballing in general
Injuries

Ugly

Mackay and McPherson worst on ground, although McPherson was serviceable in the 2nd half
Himmelberg -we got the dud brother, The Hindenburg
Horrendous mistakes either costing scoring opportunities or gifitng goals
Unable to find forward targets again and again

I strongly doubt Hamill had concussion tonight. He looked too sharp too soon after the hit. Also he was ready for the Murray hit, and his fall on to the ground wasn't too whiplashy, so I think they were just being over-precautionary given his history.

When was the last game when the Port thugs didn't leave us short on the bench?

True Port Adelaide tradition is thuggery.

Hope they are proud...
Normally I'd agree with you; they are grubby snipers.

But tonight the Smithers injury was accidental (and I despise Lycett, so that was hard to say ) and Hamill got done by friendly fire.

Welcome to the post-Tex era

Whether he plays again or not, we are officially into the era that belongs to the young players. Mackay Sloane Lynch may play next year but it’s now up to Doedee and the young guys to make this team their own
Lynch will be a very good player for a contender so he might have some value with a FA compensation.

Good
Schoenberg. First 30 disposal game. Along with Laird was our best.
Doedee very good. Fought very hard.
Butts. Was good except for a few brain lapses. Needs to improve his in close stuff but plenty to work with.
Jones. Best game for us. Poor last kick but will learn from it.
RoB lifted last quarter. Pretty good game.
Cook. Very good first game. Moved down back and should have been playing 6 weeks ago.
Fogarty. Good first half but faded. Needs to get more involved at times and nail his goals when it counts.
Lynch played very well at times but I'm still not sure if we should resign him.
McHenry. Not his biggest fan but did some good things.
Murray. Competes pretty hard.
Keays. Tries hard but his lack of polish is not good enough. We need better mids than him.

Bad
Murphy. Does nothing. Why do we play him. Move him on.
Kelly. Time to go Jake.
Mackay. Great goal but time to retire.
Thilthorpe. Terrible performance. If he is injured why play him? Somewhat concerned with his temperament. Doesn't seem to handle getting beaten. Needs to get that out of his game and start competing.
Himmelberg. Awful.
Sloane. Awful at times. Lifted last quarter. A concern.

Ugly
Smith. You stupid man ducking like that. That's how people end up in wheelchairs. Thankgod he got up.
Hamill. Hope all is ok. His concussions are a concern.
Powaa are average. I look forward to them feeling pain in the finals.

Perfect game for where we are at IMO.

Played better than Port for most of the game.
Lost by under a goal
Didn't lose draft position.

Schoenberg is our best mid.

Jones, one mistake late, but his best game. Love him in the backline.
