Looked right at home in defence. Pagans got leave him in the team for a few weeks in a row and let him settle in one position. Hopefully that will be somewhere in the defensive 50.

Far better than Teague. With some more game time it looks like he may become a regular.A strong mark,a good spoil and stood in Bradshaws way, thats more than Teagues done all year

Was playing loose man most of the time. Just keeping about 20 in front of Bradshaw.

He seemed to play that position ok as well. Perhaps we could use him as that spare man in defence and move Lance up the ground in the next few weeks.

Were you sitting with the Carlton supporters up the, um, going to the left hand side of the tele?

The things he did do seemed good. I like him a lot in defence, hopefully he can give us abit of run too.

I just hope he gets more game time next week, and continues to get more game time every game.

There's still hope out their for Setanta O'Hailpin to make it as an AFL player.

Extreamly happy of Setanta's work last night. SHowed every Carlton fan something. Still developing quiet well.

The only reason he looked comfortable last night is because he was played in the right position. THE BACKLINE!

We NEED to get SOS back to take this kid under his wing....

We should have a similar scheme to what Richmond has, where a previous player of the team is a mentor to a current player!

Imagine Williams->Murphy, Kernahan->Kennedy, SOS->Sentanta, McKay->Thorton etc etc etc

We need to re-embrace our past heroes and stir up that culture and pride... and bring them back into the fold in a major way.....

The board in these troubling times need to generate spirit and passion and not just beg for money and patience.

Imagine Stephens having a chat to say a Peter Dean and seeing a man playing for his team and jumper and not there to be a mercenary. Imagine in these days of $$$$ what a bit of down-to-earth could do for our young impressionable boys!

I like Pagan, but sometimes I wonder imagine it was Sticks who was coach... could somehow his passion come across to the boys to give them that extra edge.

We can only ponder.. but boy I can't wait for next season!

GO BLUES!

He looked a lot more comfortable in defence for sure.

On a related note, Jordan Russell needs a home detention ankle braclet preventing him from going past the wing into defence. Just his over-exuberance at the moment is costing us a few goals each game.

Well said.
Remember Hawthorn lost all of its former players to other clubs (Ayres, Tuck, etc) once retired and they haven't gotten out of that hole.
SOS i remember last year was tutoring LRT at Sydney,
and look at his game in the GF.

Lot of angst at Carlton land with former players,
a lot simply don't know where they stand
or even if they are welcome after the salary fiasco.

Time to bring these blokes back.

looked quite good in defense, which is where i think he should and will stay.

Hope the coaching staff now back him enough to give him sufficient game time. Needs to play for the majority of the games now until the end of the season.

Hopefully this will help build up his confidence so he can become the player we are all hoping for. Well done Setanta, now keep up the good work and you will do us all proud :thumbsu:

Yeah he does okay in that role but it meant Brisbane had a spare man in defence too. In normal circumstances I would rather play even numbers and back Fev in a shootout against Bradshaw. Another negative move on our part but I guess Fev's injury plus their better midfield delivery made it necessary.

Were you sitting with the Carlton supporters up the, um, going to the left hand side of the tele?
I was sitting ON TOP of the TV. :p

That would be the Eastern end of the ground on TV IIRC which is where I was sitting. It was funny watching Setanta out in space turning his head to look at Bradshaw every few seconds and holding his arms out to hold off an invisible opponent. There was one passage of play where Bradshaw got away from T Bird, by a fair margin too. He was away so quick that he passed Setanta as well but Setanta put in the big ones to get to him. The ball went over both their heads and Carlton had the man back to get it away. So he is very opponent conscious at the moment. That is not a bad thing but once again errs on the side of being conservative. I would like to see him judge the flight of the ball more and back himself so he would drop back to take that mark rather than get lead under the ball. No doubt he is being given simple instructions at the moment and concentrating on those. Still has a way to go to have a more expansive instinctive game.

He is one huge unit though. When they were running around pre-game he looked the biggest out there. Considering he is supposed to be 198cm compared to Deluca at 202cm, I wonder if this is accurate. Perhaps because Setanta is bulkier than Deluca he gives the impression of extra size.

If I'm not mistaken he has played 3 games now and never two in a row. He is a definite to play again next week and I suspect he will play the rest of the season. That should give us a pretty good idea about what he can do. Here's hoping ....

yer the best think for him is to stay in the backline for the rest of the yr

I was sitting a few rows behind the Carlton cheer squad. As a matter of fact, there were a lot of Carlton supporters at the GABBA Friday night. Nice to see.

O'Hailpin impressed me with his spare man in defence role. Went hard at the footy when a contest was on, and was always blocking Bradshaw's path on the occasion Thornton couldn't keep with Bradshaw. Hopefully, Pagan can play him for the rest of the year. We need to see what he is really made of.

I want to see Setanta playing ruck and therefore I license to roam as such. His athleticism is first class and will do a Jim Stynes given time and knowledge. We must train him in this area and give and his brother as much time with Dempsey as possible. NOW.

even better would be if he earend his spot each week. I believe that he has earned his spot against Geelong based on last weeks game.
