The Same olds getting thumped again in the pre-season stuff is undoubtable good for footy - god knows the Catters have probably picked up 5k more members after tonights game and the power got a bit of respect in Victoria after last week.

Also, as much as we LOVE dominating, who wants a totally one-sided season again... it would as absolutely shitboring as the English Premiership (shut up Dan) with ManU winning it by Xmas every year.

I've only been able to follow the games via the net and press so far but it sounds like we have work to do. Reckon there are probably some attitude probs out there amoung some but it also points to the reliance we put on Hird, Mercuri & Fletcher - and probably indicates what a good player Wallis has been the last couple of years for us.

Still reckon we'll have a strong year and definitely finish above Collingwoodenspoon.

Well done Catters - congratulations. Personally I hope either you guys, St K, Dogs or North win the thing because you need the money the most... Plus I'm rapt for Bomber Thompson.

Cheers

Sh-t happens.

They played fine in the second half, they just fell too far behind. The after-siren goal at the half took it all out of them I think.

They can coast next week against Sydney and not have to worry. Then they'll get three weeks off to rest all the hurt people and regroup. Hopefully some of the pressure and hype will be gone.

They showed some spirit at least tonight. I guess the players to come back are not merely good players, they are stars. Sometimes, the young players only need that experience and example around them to give them the direction they need. We will see a vastly different Essendon side in the season proper. I will not fall for the underdog tag ever again if Sheeds tries to wheel that one out.

I do !

I prefer seasons like 1988-89, 1995, where one magnificent team sets the standard for the others to catch. And anyway, I don't know why you're complaining, We all know that no mater how much dominance a team has over the H&A, it doesn't matter becasue it comes down to the GF anyway!

Crowds at the English premier league don't seem to be affected. Nor were they at AFL matches last year. I thought it was exciting in 1995 and 2000 when one team was just so dominant that you didn't know who (if anybody) was going to knock them off. When one team sets the standard like that, I actually believe it is good for football.

If people are not interested in football because of it, then that's bad. But guess what? Essendon (and Carlton in 1995) generated so much publicity, talk, hatred and hype from all football supporters that it had to be good for football. Just have a look at bigfooty over the last year! When Essendon lost to the Bulldogs in Round 21 last year, it was the HIGHEST TELEVISION RATING for a home and away match in 2000.

And that TV rating was due, purely and simply to the fact that Essendon were dominating the season. If Essendon were more "even" with the Bulldogs in terms of ladder position, that match would not have got anywhere near the ratings it did.

Despite Bombers getting whipped by port more than 95% predicted that they would beat Geelong. What that proves is that most of us thought it was a 'one off' loss.
Now they have lost twice and unlike last season they have picked up some injuries.

So it looks like the bubble has burst and last seasons performance will not be repeated.

It may be time for many to revise their ladder predictions.

Frodo,

If you are going to review ladder positions, can I just ask who you think will finish on top of the ladder????
