It has to be us & North now.

North were pushing for Carlton but surely the AFL will be steering clear of that train wreck.

Although knowing the AFL they will probably make it the only rotating marquee fixture, in the name of 'equalistion'...

My idea is that the Good Friday Game should be called the Harmony Game, and should be a celebration of multiculturalism and religious diversity. It gives the day a theme, and fits the backdrop of the weekend. We can't just expect to be given this fixture, we need to do something with it.

Just an idea.

Sorry... but i just threw up a little in my mouth reading that. How about NO, in the 6500 languages spoken on earth.

Good Friday is Good Friday... harmony day can be used in 10 years when they propose gay and lesbian week or something.

Settle petal, it was just an idea and didn't call for a moronic response like that. It would be naive to the that we are going to acquire rights to this game just because we asked for it. We need to make it our own in some way so get back to me when you come up with an idea.

Couldn't the theme be the Good Friday Appeal?

If us and Norf don't get this I'm going to crack the ******* shits, hoping our game this year is a cracker with a decent crowd.

We continue to play exciting dominant football, that the AFL, Media and public love to watch and talk about, we have names like BONT, The Package and Million Dollar Boyd and Libba jnr... and we shove it down the FL's throats. who is the competion? nth melb... carlton... the way those two are going about things it will quickly be come a fight between the who will play good friday with US.

AS fargy above said, having some kind of good friday appeal thing for the kiddies would be pretty cool. The is nothing that shatters cultures, religions or anything really, then sick children.

From what I understand North are the biggest obstacles to this happening. They're essentially demanding they play against a 'big' club.

Well make it dogs v stkilda then
Nah North deserve it more than us. Definitely should be them. Unfortunately it might not include us. We need to be more on the front foot and be innovative about a marquee game. Even Dees and Tigers came up with Anzac Day eve.

We've come up with nothing. Hoping we get one, but don't agree that we jump North in the queue for one. Good Friday is their baby.

I don't know how involved we were with the making of it but we had a good thing going with the Dees in the Womens Breast Cancer match. Always close matches and got a good turn out then all of sudden this year we are shafted for Sydney. I thought it was starting to grow in a good tradition especially with the womens match as a curtain raiser as a likely thing to add to it.

Edit: Didn't see the above two posts until after I hit reply on mine.

The AFL and people who are in charge of getting the women's competition up and about wanted the games separate. They wanted the focus to be completely on women's football and look to build it leading up to when their comp starts. (Not that I agree that both couldn't run together, just their reasoning).

Needs to be you guys and Norf. Stuff the big clubs.
If it's a stand-alone Good Friday game, it won't matter. Fans across the country just want to see a game on TV. Not much more exciting footy played than when your young midfield click into action anyway. No doubt too there would be plenty enough neutral supporters in Melbourne happy to help fill Etihad just so they can get a footy fix.
Bullies v Norf traditional game would be far more enjoyable than the Friday footy Carlton have been serving up dressed as tripe this year!

Why wouldn't Norf want to play us? Get a big game against us because it's Good Friday, then the games against the bigger clubs should be bigger games for them anyway. No doubt between Norf and Dogs we could fill Etihad and create a great atmosphere and in a few years look to move to MCG.

Also the RCH is basically in the middle of the North and the West, make it a massive fundraising opportunity for the appeal.

Hopefully the AFL just shaft Norf altogether and give the game to us against a big club

Good Friday night game plus howls of anguish from Norf supporters = bliss :)
