Good Friday

Good Friday has absolutely no significance to me. I'm not particularly bothered by the whole 'no footy on friday' thing because we get a game one day earlier, but on principle I say play on Good Friday!

not that I'm religious but I voted no, simply because I've enjoyed christmas and easter for the better part of my life plus a couple of public holidays every year for something I don't believe in. They have given me enough, if they don't want footy on good friday then I'm happy to give them that. Personally I think there are more important issues the AFL should try to fix.

To anyone voting for footy on Good Friday, get down to Etihad Stadium and see the Storm take on the Dragons! Top of the table clash, 2.10pm... beats sitting at home watching second rate Home and Away stars on the telethon.

I agree. There should be no public holiday, because it panders to a religion.
Have a holiday at a different time, for a different reason.

We already do, it's called Australia Day

I'd have no issue changing the public holidays to another date

I was thinking of going, but at $32.50 a head for the cheapest ticket, I think I'll stay at home and watch it on TV.

At least the NRL have the balls to play sport on Good Friday, most countries play sport on Good Friday now, simply put, if you're offended, don't go.

We should have a choice.

What we do know is that it won't happen in Andrew Demetriou's time, and he has stated as such. So as much as a majority would want it to happen, don't hold your breath. Club after club have put forward plans and requests for a game on Good Friday, and time again it has been knocked back.

A true indicater on whether the AFL is loosing out on not scheduling a game on this holiday, will be the crowd numbers and TV ratings for the Storm match at Etihad Stadium. It is a smart move on behalf of the NRL, as there will be numerous activities around the stadium all day and large numbers of people gather there that day with Channel Seven's telethon. I'm sure they will also raise alot of money, putting a good spotlight on the NRL.

I personally am happy with no game on Good Friday. We get plenty footy all season and surely there is nothing wrong with one day off. I can't see it happening in the near future and am happy to live with that.

Im interested in hearing what would everyone prefer, the status quo with Good Friday as a public holiday but no football but we have Easter Monday as well off with Football or no public holidays for both Good Friday and Easter Monday but football is played only on Good Friday like a regular Friday. Personally I like the status quo and good on Vlad on sticking to his guns :thumbsu:

Please please, have footy on Good Friday.

It is the worst public holiday of the year.

Option C) re-allocate the public holidays to other weekends and play footy on them :thumbsu:

One of them could be called Football Friday

Will be interesting to see the crowd for the Storm vs Dragons NRL game. Its a great opportunity for the Storm to make some more headway in Melbourne.

Judging from the posts on this thread then I think there is no need for the public holidays at Easter at all, nor would there be a need for them to be allocated to any other weekend.

Australia has more public holidays than most countries as it is.

Can't understand why the AFL keep holding off on this when the NRL and Super 14 play games on Good Friday. You don't hear all the religous nuts whinging about those games being played so why would they be upset over an AFL game.

You'd think the AFL would be keen to make the most of scheduling another stand alone blockbuster on a public holiday, maybe not a day game but I can't see why they can't have a twilight/night fixture.

Im not that desperate! but the AFL will eventually have to give the public what it wants! The day of any paticular religion dominating the whole the nation are well and truly over

Even the US dont have a public holiday on Good Friday and they are supposedly a "christian" nation

No footy on Good Friday, or alternately, footy on Good Friday but no Good Friday public holiday.

If you're going to take advantage of the holiday, put up with some of the inconveniences that it is parcelled with. Like the pubs not opening until 12pm on Anzac Day.

Wtf you're complaining about a holiday?
