Should it become obvious that we can't be realistically competitive this season then I too agree we should place an increased emphasis on blooding some of the younger kids who have been running around in the Canberra comp.

But IMO there needs to be a balance in that they must earn the right to wear the jumper and that they need to have the never say die "bloods" culture and respect for the jumper instilled into them, which won't happen if they are playing in a team which is focused on winning high draft picks, but instead with other players who are trying their best.

But yes if we can't be competitive IMO there needs to be more blooding and also more "easings" into retirements.

Very difficult in that I also strongly believe that it is important that the club treats our current older champions with respect and dignity.

Whether the team wins a flag or regulary looses by ten goals, I want to support a team that plays its heart out and I am proud to say that has been our Swans
pffft, if they can play footy they can play footy.

Am i the only Swans fan sick of this cliche being thrown around left right and centre.

Each to their own but I would assume that you would agree with me that there are more skilled and gifted players than a Paul Kelly and or a Brett Kirk who never achieved as much.

Isn't there a players code or something where the bloods spirit is mentioned?

Totally agree, but i think it has more to do with those individuals than some bloods code.

with a post like this ,you might have to go on the saints thread.
lets all go and hope we play like carlton or richmond and saints and hawks in the past
early draft picks but no flags.
I dont get your post???
Richmond's recruitment has been awful
Saints have been unlucky with injuries but their premiership window is still open.
Hawks & Carlton will both be there abouts in the next 2-5 years.

They have done very well by finishing around the bottom.

what i'm saying is that they all tanked and wheres their premierships, none.
why have the saints been lucky, they have deserved what they have got, beaten by better TEAMS in two prelims.
hawks will be thereabouts but have disipline problems and want to try and act like Freo by pushing and shoving which makes them tough, tough is the bloods who put their heads over the footy(except mcveigh).
carlton will have a good midfield but not much else.
richmond are crap and will be for a long time, led by duds in mumbles miller and terry wallet.
i'd rather do it our way at least i've seen a premiership

LOL Mumbles Miller :D

BTW I would like to think Carlton have the potential to also have a very decent, potent foward line in years to come, some nice talls coming through as well, Kruezer will play most CHF this year ..
Our ruck and backlines and general list depth does need some working on, but we should be allright in about 3 years ...

Just on the Swans, I do wonder whether the club is starting on an rebuilding phase now ... getting a few extra draft picks and not trading for recycled players is a good sigh, having said that, I feel you guys seriously didn't get value for Schinder and dempster (pick 26) surely those guys together would be worth a 1st rnd pick from the Saints ????

Really? Why? Because they have lots of talented kids? St Kilda have been "there abouts" for a few years now too. I'd rather go down fighting than rise up tanking.

But how do we know that now? The boy's barely turned 18, give him a go before writing him off as a failure. Personally, I think both will be stars for us if they keep doing what they do best; they certainly have the goods to :)

Stop dreaming about high draft picks. If the Swans ever finished at the bottom, Demetriou would instantly switch to a lottery system. The bastard hates our guts for humiliating him in 2005 and he'll never forget it.
