Good pubs for a drink b4 the game

I loved the London before it got done up. It was a real inner city suburban pub with real inner city suburban pub atmosphere.
it's still good. Manages to retain a decent atmosphere, but a bit too snobby for my liking these days.

the Vaucluse was a good one before they did that up as well

Frequented that establishment a few times back in the day. agree.:thumbsu:

Vaucluse was good back in the mid nineties when i used to play pool against them and the good old gb was actually the good old gb not what it is today.
It was one of the first to go followed by the fitzroy equivalent the punters club, and soon the tote.
Getting to be that there will be no decent scungy rock and roll pubs around everything turning into a form of brasserie it makes me sick to the stomach.

Early 90s was a good time. Even some of the grungy Fitzroy pubs have turned yuppy nowadays.
Melbourne is turning herself into Montreal. Full of brasseries and cafe/bars and not a genuine pub in sight. Stuck up pseudo-French w***ers.

agree 100% Tugga not many places to sit down occupy the front bar, play pool and get stonkin drunk in, Union Club in Fitzroy is ok for this, the gem ( used to be currys family hotel) food as well, otherwise too far and few in between.
What about Geelong? , National and Bc used to be ok, will go to the Nash after Skilled game.:D

be thankful & make the most of what you've got. every bris pub has been sanitised to within an inch of their life (or death). all the old tiles have been replaced with stainless steel and polished timber.

Barwon Club is OK. Haven't been to the Nash for ages. The Clarendon on the main highway opposite the ground is decent and doesn't try to be something it's not.

That's where I have to tip my hat to old Sydney town. Was up there for the NRL GF in October and there were 4 pubs within a block of where I was staying that were just good, old fashioned pubs, with no hoopla and no pretentious bulldust. Just walked in, had 2 schooners in each one and all was good with the world even after copping a 40-point hiding.

If you guys are ever in melbs after mcg game or whatever can't go past the carringbush hotel in abbottsford it's good, has a great small front bar always with some sport on, the main man there's a collingwood man but atill is a sports nut so doesn't discriminate against other team supporters.
Up the guts will back me up on this one.

link here 10 - 15 minute walk from the g

Lmao @ all the "oh I sometimes pop into the Royal" and "I go with the flow" comments from all the deadset perverts that led me astray! hahahaa I can highly recommend the pre-match routine of London -> Royal-> G as was introduced to me by my erstwhile collegues. As for the post game activities they might best be described as "at your own risk" but a laugh a minute lmao

ssshhh Tt, trying not to sound too enthusiastic about the joint, you'll blow our cover:p
