good pubs in melbourne

ok well, i am coming over to melbourne in rd17, and i wanna know where all the good pubs r in melbourne. NOW i dont have too much time so i would appreciate it, if u would keep them in the city area...so i dont end up travelling all nite, just to get there. i only know of 2 or 3 and if i go to the same pub all the time it gets boring. so yeah, if u guys have any suggestions that would be great.

Well, my three choices would be:

The Punters Club in Fitzroy
The Empress of India in North Fitzroy
The All Nations Hotel in Richmond

Just check a map...all of them are easy to get to by tram.

bridie o reilly's in chapel street prahran..but they might not let you in..check the no dogs allowed sign at the enterance

Empress is a good pub...I rate the Punters Club, the Clyde, the Elephant & Wheelbarrow, Bridies, the Charles ****ens (live F1 races and qualifying!). My local (the Fire Station in Ivanhoe) is a pretty cool pub, especially on Fridays

Get your act together Bluey, its a shambles. **** is actually a first name and not rude at all

Obviously words like **** and mother****er shouldn't be allowed. At least this stretchs our vocabularly when trying to describe Port and Collingwood supporters.

The CD is agreat pub. We went there after the Crows thumped richmond. No Coopers Pale ale though which was poor form.

I can also reccomend the Lady Evelyn (across the street from Punters last time I looked) and further along Brunswick Street and away in a little side street there is a really grouse little pub called the Tramways.

Its been my favourite Melbourne pub for years

Hey Deegirl...I just remembered, I have a Help File on my Computer, and when you open it up it show a map of the CBD in Melbourne with every bar and club! You can click on each one and it tells you what the crowd and dress code are like. Very cool thing to have.

Best to avoid the Evelyn (it's changed so much, and not for the better), but BSA is right on another thing....if you wander away from Brunswick Street (towards Collingwood), you'll find plenty of good pubs in the side streets....he recommends Tramways, I kind of like the Rose. Oh, there's also the Builders Arms on Gertrude Street and that's a mighty fine pub.

I can also recommend Jimmy Watson's on Lygon Street.

The Evelyn has been crap for a long time. They've got a wine bar type thingy on the side (next to their bottle shop) and the main room is a live venue....but it doesn't have the aura or feel of a pub.

I suggest the Labour In Vain on Brunswick Street. The Grand Hotel on Burnley Street. And Meyers Place Bar in the city.

The best pub to go to this weekend is THE BIG PUB.
It is located at the Royal Exhibition Building and is a giant British beer-hall that can house more than 2000 people.

In the City, Mothers Bar and Great Western are decent pubs ... Duke of Wellington's ok ... Markillies used to be grouse but its gone now ... Riverside's a beauty, too.

OK one place i WON'T be going to is the Duke of Wellington, cos i had a bad exeperience last time. too bad. (whateva u do. DONT stay there.) so yeah. i might just cruise the city for a bit, and then head to port melbourne. thanxs guys.
