what are your favourite racing web-sites out there for form guides, approximate odds, past results, and just general news??
My favourite for form guides is www.racenet.com.au and www.thetote.com.au although racenet have every form guide on it. Main ones it misses are Flemington and Caulfield. It's also got good form guides i find for the lesser races thoroughbreds, as it includes barrier trials.
The Tote is a good one because it gives you the entire history of the horce, as well as a detailed form of it's last three races. In terms of a horses history though, it doesn't show the quality of the field. It just says date, track, race #, barrier, position, jockey, lengths behind winner, strategy it races (i.e. led, raced near led, stayed back etc,.) and so on.
The Victoria Racing web-site gives at www.racingvictoria.com.au gives a good link to www.rsb.net.au (i think) and there form guides are pretty good.
You can combine the three, and you get a pretty solid looking form guide, from which you can make a pretty astute judgement if you have never seen the horses run. Of course, i still think the best way to pick a horse is to see it run, and use your own judgement.
The one thing none of these form guides take into account, is if the jockey gave the horse a good chance of winning, whether it got boxed and wasn't allowed into the race etc,. etc,.
For general news, www.racenet.com.au and www.racingvictoria.com.au are the two best i have found.
But for Past results, i haven't found anything too spectular. On racenet you can dig up past stakes placegetters, but it doesnt' give you too many details. You can check out full race meetings on www.nswtab.com.au if you click to results archives - it gives you final odds, and paying dividends for the day, but doesn't say much else. On some races though you can get an audio replay.
