Good start to the year for Cats, do they play Brisbane in Cairns next week??

Fantastic start for the year, big task next week in Cairns though, although in the preseason, anything can happen. AFL had a non-factually correct article saying we were playing Hawks next week.

Good win today.

The part that most impressed me was the way we shut down both Luke Darcy and Chris Grant.

I know Darcy was a bit underdone, but still, King and Street gave him a hiding.

The Doggies were missing two key defenders, but our big forwards dominated.

If Mooney and McCarthy can continue to play this well, we will have a potent forward line with guys like Kingsley and Johnson providing very awkward matchups for oppostition defenders.

Without getting too carried away at this early stage of the season, it was good to see Geelong start off with a win. One of the things which impressed me throughout the game was Geelong's toughness at the football. Paul Chapman led the way in this regard and Kelly's bump on Chris Grant which ended his game was great to see. Our skills were what you'd expect for a first game and some of our set plays, the centre breaks and at the stoppages worked quite well.

The only worry was Cameron Ling with his ankle injury... hope it's not too serious but I guess if you're going to suffer an injury, it is better now then later on in the season.

All in all, a good win to the Cats and looking forward to the challenge of playing against the best team, (Brisbane) in Cairns next weekend.

Great start to the season-- even if the home-and-away season proper doesn't start for another month and change.

No matter who was MIA for the Bulldogs, you have to admire the way that Geelong took the game right to the opponent today. Their execution was fantastic, and you can tell that they're a bit tougher right now... all that time working the weights in the offseason is starting to show up already.

I'll also reserve judgment on Cameron's Ling's ankle injury until I hear a definite analysis and prognosis, but his influence was definitely missing during the third term after he went out. The team's total execution is just so much better whenever Ling's around-- but as Darren said, if he is injured, better for it to happen now than in the regular season proper.

So many players played well today-- off the top of my head, and in no particular order, Steve Johnson, Kent Kingsley, Gary Ablett Jr., Paul Chapman, Ben Graham... and it was good to see David Spriggs put in a quality performance in his first game back after a year out.

Going into the Brisbane game in Cairns, I would say that after a 58-point win where the Cats controlled things for a vast majority throughout, their confidence would be riding sky-high, and they may have a good chance (at the very least) in giving the mighty Lions a solid run for their money.

More on that later in the week-- but for now, great start for Geelong on 2003.

Cheers,
William

Yeah, good to see Kingsley, Mooney and Johnson kick some goals If they can continue that in the season proper, then we may be able to give McCarthy a run in our forward line.
