Without Karl Malone, there would be no Garnett, Stoudamire, Kemp and every other PF who has worshipped this legend. The man that redefinded the way the Power Forward posiiton was played. The last of basketballs golden era is gone. The league will never be the same

Better get in before the Karl-bashers take over this thred...

Despite what anyone says, and despite all his faults (though I still can't quite get over the hypocrisy of the '92 Olympics and the attack on Phil Smyth's character) ranks as one of the all-time greats.

Doesn't belong in the rarified air of Magic, Michael, Larry or Bill but then neither do 99.9% of ballers.

Still, 99.9% of ballers would kill for a career like 'The Mailman.'

What's the Phil Smyth bit about?

Good career, Karl... you'll be getting GPFOAT hype until Tim Duncan retires in 6-7 years. Enjoy it.

Elbow swinging, no ring winning thug. I won't miss him.

Thats because, like MattyC2422, (Bifgootys resident douche bag) you have folowed basketball for 3, maybe 4 years

Malone is twice the player that Duncan is, and ever will be. MattyC will disagree, and possibly cry. Malone dominated the paint against the likes of Olajuwon, Barkley, Ewing, Shaq, Mourning and Robinson while they were all in ther prime

Duncan came along when the league was at a low point and there was no competition. Those guys would have eaten Tim 'the boring statue' Duncan alive in their prime

KArl Malone - simply the best

Karl couldn't even win one when he jumped on Shaq's back.

You like to argue a lot of things, but trying to discredit Tim Duncan is an argument you CANNOT win. Period.

hehe..

re phil smyth... smyth had qualms about playing against an aids-infected magic johnson (dream team) during the barcelona games... most notably, charles barkley and karl malone who said they'd love to get their hands on the boomers after smyth's comments... they never played against each other.. then when magic announced his return to the nba... karl malone had the same worries as smyth... absolute hypocrite...

Thats funny, because I can remember watching the Detroit Pistons win their first two championships after missing out in '87 when I first starting supporting them.

Hey, say what you like about Duncan but he's already got a ring and can at least conduct himself with some decency instead of whining about calls or throwing elbows and nearly killing opposition players.

Simply the best? Get your hand off it. Jordan, Magic, Bird, McHale, Russell, Chamberlain, Dr J, Isiah, Shaq and Olajuwan are ahead of him and that list is just off the top of my head.

He's over-rated. Sure he had longevity, but when it came to the games that mattered, he couldn't get the job done. Thats the true mark of a champion and you'll notice that all those I listed did just that.

You are kidding aren't you?
Duncan one team, 2 rings and still 7 or 8 years to get more. His opponents include Shaq, Garnett, Webber, J Oneal etc etc.

Malone 0 rings, retired and couldn't even buy a ring when he was surrounded by Shaq, Kobe and Payton.

And how can you not like Duncan's style. Text book is what I'd call it and I'd rather see him post up and hit that sweet bank shot any day of the week then see Stockton run a pick and roll for Malone to get an easy layup or dunk.

And as for Duncan being boring, that might be because he is not a drama queen that says some of the most ridiculous ********** in the media.

Magic was very bitter about that - he felt betrayed by what Malone did and fair enough. It was pretty low.

If I remember correctly, Karl ('the whitest black man in America' according to Dennis) was the most vocal opponent to Magic's return and led the campaign against it.

If I had only followed ball for 3 years, I wouldn't have nearly as much hate of Karl as I do.

Think about it.

Sad to see Karl retire, and without a ring. A true champion of the game and along with Petit and Duncan will be classed as the greatest PF's of their era.
Personally, I'd still rate Petit the best PF, because he was able to win a championship against Russell and his Celtics.
