Very much the correct decision for his family and future. I'll follow his GC career with interest.

Will always be remembered here, not just for the bookend GF goals in 2012 but as a person who overcame significant setbacks to be a quality player and quality person.

Good luck Mal

I'm very sorry to see him go. He's been one of our great success stories.

First Mumford goes, now Malceski. Yet Goodes stays on and we're still stuck with Reid for another 3 years.

We're not the clever list managers we think we are.

Always look at the positives. Yer if mal stayed it would be great but now the he has left it opens the door for a Hewitt, jones, Mitchell etc. if mal stayed those boys may have not got the chance to show what they can do and may have moved on for more opportunities.

Yer we lose 3 years of mal but we could gain 10+ years of a jones , Hewitt or Biggs

The problem is that Malceski was a proven performer with plenty to offer. And we've been unable to keep him.

Every year teams lose very good players to retirement and injury but the wheels don't necessarily fall off.

Mal's departure opens the door for another young player. I seem to remember wringing of hands on here this year over the lack of senior game time for Mitchell, Jones, Hewett and next year highly likely Heeney.

I think Shaw is going on as senior insurance, Goodes is going on because he's unique in the forward line and may be in better physical shape next year than he has since 2012.

The empire doesn't crumble on the departure of one HBF, we have too much quality young talent to bring into the seniors next year.

No hard feelings, he doesn't owe us anything.

One of those win-win trades I'd have thought, although the Suns have paid quite a lot, and for three years.

Can't believe any here wishing him ill.

No matter what he does for the Suns, he'll forever be the guy who kicked those two goals in the 2012 GF. Great servant of the club, and wish him luck and hope it works out well for him and his family.

Out of interest Punts how will you feel when Buddy is running around on $800-1m at 33? ;)

Not sure. But honestly I don't think about the money once the players run out.

How did we feel about it when Goodes was on that coin in his 30s?

Pretty sure no one holds it against him.

Sucks to lose him. But this will be an annual event for clubs across the League now. Swings and roundabouts.

i guess the reality is match winner freak forwards are worth more than outside half back flankers in both amount and years risk no disrespect to mal

wether 9 years is just that bit too much is another thing :P

people say its buddy/tippett causing a squeeze.

If anyone is causing a supposed squeeze to me it is Reid and Mitchell (mitchell should come good of course if given game time imo)

Can't help but feel the premiership window closed a little. Experience wins premierships.

I agree with you on this.

It makes the failure in the 2014 GF all the more difficult to swallow, because Malceski was one of our better performers on the day and throughout the season, and yet we're losing him.

There's a real question mark over the rest of that playing group.

Nobody holds it against him, I just can't wait til Swans v Suns.

Same as when you play local footy, when you line up on old team mates you always hope to get a cheeky little bump in there.

Been a great servant of the club.

Cheers Mal!

What, the same playing group that only the week before had you and I and everyone else gushing after they flogged Norf and beat Freo the game before?

You can't understate the magnitude of that failure on the game's biggest stage.

Good get for Nick I would say, there were some frustrating moments with him toward the end of the season, Still have 2012 to remember him by .....the extra cash he would be mad not to take it. Rest assured, the sky isn't falling, we can cover this one.

If Frawley is a pick 3 compo.....what is Mal, surely a better player than Frawley......

I think that's a bit of an over reaction. Your playing group is still one of the best in the AFL, regardless of whether Malceski stays or leaves. The loss in 2014 will galvanise your group and make them harder to beat than ever.

...and you cant underestimate the magnitude of getting to a Grand Final.
