In not too sure; i think we need both. i noticed afew times without reid there would be long kicks to goodes with 3 gold coast players on him. with both it breaks it up

The best way to get back into form is to play even if its in the 2nds. Goodes is not a player you drop to find form and missing games at this part of the season costs him oportunity to regain form.

Goodes is in pretty bad form at the moment. I would not be to upset if he had to miss a game or two.
Bad form? No he is not playing to his usual very high standard but not bad, he has been doing a job whilst not dominating. Some have a very short memory and we need him for finals, same with Sammy Reid. Yes we can win without Goodes as has been proven but finals is a different story all together. Hope they are both okay when that time comes. Never ever write off a champion especially when it is one of your own.

He's been hand-balling off way too much. Not so bad last night (only one or two), but the last couple of games at the SCG I remember about 3-4 instances per game that should've been goals, but turned into behinds/turnovers because he's fired off terrible handballs when he should have just had a ping.

Yep. He's playing like a mortal rather than a god. I wouldn't call it bad form.
That's the fact, once Reid went off Goodes was an easy target for defenders, yet still finished with 3. Seems an ok return although he does look slwer, but that may just be the speed of the younger GC players or a trick of the camera

It happened again against GC. Early in the game, Goodes and I think TDL were running into an open goal with a defender between them. Goodes tried to attract the defender then flick the handball over the top but the defender anticipated it perfectly but Goodes still went with the handball and the defender managed to stop the goal. Goodes weas obviouslt dirty on himself. But I'd expect a player of Goodes' quality to get that kind of play right, and in the past we could always rely on him to get it right.

It either points to a lack of confidence, or it suggests that Goodes is still carrying some sort of injury that's hindering him from being able to perform at his own standard. So whenever he tries something a little silky, he comes off looking slow or ordinary compared to his opponent. I don't know whether his speed has been affected, but he looks out of touch atm. I hope he recovers soon cause we need him at his best to do damage in the finals, and at present he's merely a bit-part player.

Yep his timing's a bit off, and maybe he's just getting used to the pace of the game again. Once he starts clunking some contested marks or getting those kinds of set up plays right then we'll know he's back.

The beauty of the man though is he's still finding a way to make an impact on the scoreboard.

Lol Demi-God would be more appropriate. Lets not insult the man.

Look he was a little lousy at times against GC, and a little slow, but he still kicked 3 goals. I know a forward role is about more than just goals, but at least hes checking that box. Plus he had a monster of a game against Brisbane, 3 goals and I think 13 marks with 20+ disposals.

And as superficial as it probably sounds, his best chance to make 350 games is to play every game available.

Goodes is going the same way most players his age go, they show promise and look like they can play for another 10 years at their age but then it takes one injury and the decline begins. It's happened to the best of the best and Goodes won't be immune to it.

Let's hope that i am wrong.

I thought much the same thing as soon as the injury happened. It was such an uncharacteristic injury for a player of his durability, that I worried it was the sign of a physical decline, rather than bad luck.

I still think he can play a very valuable role in the side, but all this talk of "when Goodes gets back to his best" as if it's an inevitability I think is a bit misplaced.

I think he just needs to adjust his game a bit. I think he's trying to play in a way that his body isn't always letting him.

He's still a massive unit with great hands that's very quick off the mark. He'll just need to start playing slightly more conventionally (i.e.: actually jumping at the ball).

Needs to rethink how he plays, much in the way guys like Jordan did in their dotage.

Wow... The negativity on here is hurting my eyes... ooooouuucch... it burns it burns!!

He can collect brownlow votes taking a sh*t that's how damn good he is.

I agree he's looked out of touch but what would you expect. He's had the longest layoff from the game he has ever had to endure and is trying to find his feet again.

This reminds me of the calls that Bolts shouldn't play on this year, that he was too slow etc... look at him now proving those who spoke ill of him wrong. As soon as some of our old boys drop off a touch even our own want to call them done & dusted half the time... Sheesh. Put the axes away and bring out the red & white flags people!!!
ending rant....... now.

I can't remember BUT has jude had any hammy or groin injuries in the last 3-4 years?

Ask any footballer about groins and hammys in your 30s and all will say the same thing.

Yep I agree he is one of our club legends and the very minute he is not in every play he is written off. His game is dissected in minute detail. Give it a rest, I am just glad when he runs on the field, he has given all to this club as has Jude Bolton and they keep giving. We are winning anyone would have thought we were losing and in great trouble. One poster even said Goodes would be a bit player prowling around in his dotage. Last year Best and Fairest, terrific year, this year injured and not walking on water he must be finished.

Loving the negativity here... 90% of players in the league would of been happy with Goodes's performance on the weekend.

And if it had been a TLD type player who had kicked three goals we would all be singing their praises...

No one is being overly negative, but the reality is at his age even the champions have slowled down dramatically after a releativly mild injury.

Groins and Hammys are bad news for those over 30. Thats just the reality of life and the reality of getting on with age.
