Just a quick observation from the first two rounds, but has anyone else noticed Goodes seems a little slow? It could just be he's not having much of an impact which is making him appear sluggish, but I noticed during the preseason that he had bulked up even more and I'm worried it's effected his speed.

Thoughts?

Hmmm... I don't think I've noticed him getting slower but I've definitely noticed he's going bulkier. I'm not good with the science of the body or anything, but I assume his aerobic capacity isn't as good as we liked it to be?

I remember listening to the commentary back in Round 1. One of them was expressing grave concerns about how Goodes' body will catch up to him (something simialr to Yze and Crouch) because Goodes has been playing 193 consectutive games and counting. He expressed that Goodes' body could weigh him down and wouldn't be able to produce his usual performance in the future. It could be happening to him now? I don't know.

I'm worried now.

if he IS carrying a bit more size, it's probly just as much to do with the natural ageing/maturity process and, if so, will be run off over the course of the season
i wouldn't be too worried about physical matters with goodes, it's more the psychological/emotional side i'd worry about

Agree with you,but dont want him to have the course of the season to run it off. This season is the start of our rebuild the team,if he doesnt cut it,hopefully the powers that be will drop him to the ressies, and give someone
else a chance. It is time to get ruthless,or face years in the wilderness!!

Agreed Bedford, but there have been numerous discussions on our board, regarding players being picked to play based on reputations and or status within the player group. It took Goodsey a long time to get it together
last season, and i think that this season he will be under more scrutiny.
This applies to all of our senior players this season,as we really have to blood
the next generation of players. Its quite possible that a few of our more senior players might have to have a rest in the ressies this year, not saying its
going to happen, but a stint in Canberra is not what any senior player would want!

Geez you people are impatient. Goodes will be motoring again by mid season, in good time for the run home. He will be a very damaging force to opposition teams in the right half of the season, don't you worry about that. he is after all, a Swan, did you expect anything different :)

He looked alright last night running around the back of packs.
On the weight he might be getting used to carrying it around, for it would seem likely he will go fwd after Hall & Micky O retire..
