I haven't watched the replay yet, and from the responses on the main board, Goodes has been playing very very well.

Thoughts on his game from the POV of Swannies' supporters?

The good thing about this game is that it has lifted Goodes' confidence, and also I think, has gained more respect for himself from a few of those nutters who think he's over rated.

Yep that was all I was hoping for......especially the lifting of goodes lets hope he has found his form and will bounce right on through the rest of the season.

You could mount a solid argument that he's overrated given that his form is (often) up and down. When he's on song there's no doubt he's one of the absolute guns, but he has a substantial number of quiet games. You could equally argue that this is due to close tagging or other factors outside his control - but I've always thought of him as a bit hit and miss. Amazing player when in form though, you don't win two Brownlows for mediocrity.

Played well last night. Was quiet in the first, but when he got his hands on it was really damaging.

The frustrating thing about Goodes is that even if he just played every game at 80%, he'd be one of the top 3 players in the country, without a doubt.

The problem is some times he'll play at 100%, then the next week he'll be 50%.

i was at the game.

his work rate, leading and ground covered is so impressive. constanly running to space and following the ball.

he was quite willing to carry the ball and run.

took on just about anyone that tried to tackle him, which was exciting, but got him into trouble at times. but you'd rather him doing it than Leo.

His disposal wasn't quite up to it last night, a few handballs to players under pressure, some missed kicks (eg: the one after his 3-4 bounces down the wing). however there was some awesome kicking.

all in all i'd give him a 8.5-10. which is awesome for the standard of player out there.

the mixed team supporting supporters behind me loved him, and raved about him for about 10 minutes. And they were right, when he arches his back, looks up and runs flat chat there's not many better sights in footy, they also lamented the fact they don't see enough of him being based in melbourne. then there was a 2nd mob at the back of the section, who had a goodes chant going everytime het touched the pill.

it was good signs considering his patchy form in the first round of games. lets hope he gained some confidence and runs away with another Brownlow :)

Goodes was superb. It was a typical Goodes esque performance. If you read the stats sheet alone it will perhaps show Harvey, Foley and Mitchell having more of the ball but as we swans fans know when Goodes is in full swing he has an impact with fewer touches, he can win contested footy and contested marks and was doing so last night. His last couple of games leading up to this he was in good nick and hopefully this is the spark he needs to have a great season.

I saw little difference in that performance (yes I did watch a replay despite regarding the game as a vacuous waste of time) than from practically any other he has turned in for the Swans this year.

He had his usual low numbers, but a few very telling possessions and a number of great 1%ers. Steady contributor.

Personally, I don't feel we need to see Goodes get Judd like figures every week. As long as he is working for us and getting to the contest I'm happy.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but to say Goodes is hit and miss is a worry. It is not very often as footy fans we see genuine superstars,in Goodes we have one but he is not super human everybody has bad days,Hird,Judd have had bad days Gary Ablett after destroying us had a shocker against Freo so do you call him or the others hit and miss,no i bet people like you don't.
Just learn to enjoy no.37 because he is special but he's not perfect.

After watching the replay, I can safely say how good it is to see Goodes' running and backing himself. On countless occasions did I see Goodes run with confidence and taking his men on. Grabbed plenty of contested possession and you can definitely see how high he's riding at the moment. This tribute match has not only given us the chance to watch a great game, but also see Goodes running into some good form.

Very exciting!

I don't think Goodes is as inconsistent as some around here are saying. I reckon you can go to most games and expect exactly what he gave the game before. Problem is he starts his seasons badly, and plays consistently badly until he snaps out of it. When he snaps out of it though, there's no guaranteeing he'll be stopped for the rest of the year. Gets into the most amazing of purple patches.

Played quite well i thought.
8 or 9 Contested Possesions i think? His third man up in the ruck was brilliant, plus hard running and ability to take on tacklers had me in awe of the superstar :thumbsu:

I think it highlights that Goodes could do with more support in the Swans midfield. 1/2 of our midfield end up tagging, while the rest aren't damaging which means opposition teams can concentrate on restricting Goodes.

Somebody came up with this point on the main board and I think its pretty interesting. Maybe he isn't doing so well early on in the year because we haven't gained much forward momentum and our blue collar midfield is being just that.

We need more creative, attacking midfielders to sync with our taggers and in and unders and take the pressure off Goodes as being one of the sole true midfielders that create damaging opportunities through the middle.

Hopefully McVeigh does start to show it this year, but I want Jack to be groomed as something other than a tagger. Sure, givee him the experience, but in bursts through the game v. North and v. WBD I saw glimpses of an attacking side that could be very, very handy when co-ordinated with the role that Goodes plays.

Sure everyone has bad days, but when someone is touted as one the top 2-3 players in the competition they are naturally held to higher standards than 'mere mortal' players. Completely agree that he is a supreme talent, and that when he is on song he is near unstoppable. I've also noticed that he tends to go missing a fair bit (tagged out of it, form etc), particuarly towards the beginning of each season.

While this is true, it overlooks the fact that we're structured to hold teams in the middle, and aggressively attack from defence - often with forwards in the ROK mould pushing up the ground and being present in any turnover situation to help break things into an open forward line with MOL and Hall in plenty of space.

But it's true that we've really missed that Willo type since 2005.

don't try and square up now you have made your statement, hope he wins another Brownlow and sticks it up a few supporters from Sydney and others who know nothing about aussie rules

..and those who think he didn't deserve his Brownlows.

I'm all for him becoming a three-peater with Bobby :)

Haha, settle down.

Nothing in the world would make me, and surely Costanza too, happier than if Goodes won another Bronlow.

The simple fact is that he is inconsistant. He's still better than most, but like I said, if he played at the level he is able to on a consistant level he'd be one of the top 3 players in the country.

As an example, look at last year. Dominated the second half of the year. If he had played at 80% of that level for the first half, he'd have run away with the Bronlow (disregarding his lack of eligibility), and we may have finished top 4. Instead, he went missing for half the year.

Where's the inconsistency? Or were you just that desperate to flame?

There was one part during the second quarter, one of the Ch 10 commentators asked Choco what should he do to stop Adam Goodes. And then Choco was like "Well, Bomber just took Goodes off the ground which I think was a great idea". :D:thumbsu:
