The timing is interesting given Jack's rugby league background, but I think Goodes would have stepped aside willingly given his age. I wonder who the other contenders were, Sexy Smith must have been close!

Jack being a captain is great news and plays like a Sydney swans leader however the only sour note for me is .............. It's a sign that goodsey is winding down ... I always thought he could play forever

Yep, you leave your ego at the door when you walk into the Sydney Swans. Goodesy yet again gives nothing but a class above. Completely agree with the decision and am really really looking foward to seeing Kizza run out as captain. Just yet another example of the club/team first philosophy our players exhibit in all aspects on & off the field. Thought I'd be disappointed but am actually quite happy. Goodesy can focus moreso on seeing out the last couple of years of his career (see what I did there) and Kizza gets a run at it while Goodesy is there to walk him through it. Should match up with Macca quite well too IMO.

There's no way this decision could've come from anyone other than Goodesy. All class, on and off the field. I think it's a great decision, just like Roos passed the baton to Horse when the Swans we're at a juncture, Goodes has done the same with the captaincy. There will be a changing of the guard over the next 2-3 years, perfect to get someone like Jack into the role to push the rest of the guys into a new era.

This club is all class, and Goodesy epitomises the club's values, and in a lot of ways, surpasses them. And he's so humble throughout everything.

On ya Goodesy

I don't think Goodes will regret it at all. He's already stamped his place in the game. He didn't get to hold the cup aloft in 2012, but he was right up there with the handful of players who had a major impact on the result of the game. So once he hangs up his boots, he won't think about whether he had a (C) next to his name, but the crucial moments that he impacted to get the result on the day.
