The most successful Victorian clubs of the 21st century Geelong and Hawthorn are medium sized clubs as well ironically enough.
Which helped us enormously as we adapted to the new era of equalisation - no cut-throat expectations, no messiah complex (Abletts notwithstanding). No pressure to cheat if results didn't come, either.

Carlton were a chance for top 4 this year. A few things amiss but so they were at Coillingwood 2021.

Essendon has a civil war on the board.

Melbourne are a medium sized club in the biggest sport in Australia being run by a cricket social club.

Sorry but on what planet was Carlton a chance of the top 4? Aside from Vossy's made up planet.

Rated by many on here and in the media. I expected them to play finals.

I expected Sydney to fall off the cliff because they are a gutless fake club propped up by the AFL, at least I got that right ;)

Still nothing official from MFC. Is the joint actually collapsing?

The drug stuff was horrible, not sure if the coach made the players problems worse or vice versa, but the board and the parent body (MCC) have to carry some blame here.

I think a cricket club running a football club is untenable, maybe the MCC knows this and is kicking up dust with a messy departure to cover their own arses.

Who is running the club given they don't have a CEO in place? Surely the incoming CEO (but yet to start) would have been across this? But it couldn't have been his decision?

Was it the Chairman's? Was it the football directors? Strange how such a decision could be made with their current structure.

Was Good Stuff Goodwin caught doing something silly and hence the sacking?

You did? Not sure why to be honest, they still had a putrid small forward list before the year and their best HBF did an ACL. That was before considering how bad Voss is. If they made it, would only have been in the back end of the 8, were never a top 4 chance.

On planet Sam McClure, who tipped them for the flag.
Then again, that's a weird planet.

Being the only club to have the MCG as their home ground had a lot to do with Melbourne's flags back in the day.

John Coleman suffering that career ending injury also cleared the way for them to dominate the rest of the 1950's.

Okay I forgot that silly planet lol, so two ridiculous planets Sam McClure and good ole Vossy

Short memory Cyclops. You seem to have forgotten the mid '80's when Collingwood nearly went bankrupt. Or the late '90's when the club was posting losses.

Yes the AFL didn't come to their help...I'll grant you that.

He wasn't sacked it was a "conscious uncoupling" of love

Conscious uncoupling is a way to approach the end of a romantic relationship, particularly a divorce, with a focus on minimizing negativity and maximizing personal growth and healing.

WHERE IS THE LOVE?

The most successful Victorian clubs of the 21st century Geelong and Hawthorn are medium sized clubs as well ironically enough.

Hawthorn and Geelong also identified cultural issues, and rather than covering it up, they made the necessary changes.

The "big" clubs for the most part have always pointed the finger for their failings

83point win and then sacked.

Must be some sort of record.
I would say that the cards were on the table after the St Kilda loss - just took a few days for all on the Board to be on the same page due to the payout - so don’t think the result against WCE would have had any bearing on things no matter the result as the decision had sort of already been made!

I implore everyone to read through this entire thread and count how many Melbourne supporters are here posting. I've counted one. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

This has to be the least engaged supporter base in the AFL. Maybe all their supporters are over 75?
Oh dear
