To be fair - I (still) view James Hird as being a very intelligent and honest person. If these texts were to come from his phone, I take the view that rightly or wrongly, Hirdy believed everything was above board even if it was pushing the limits. I think what has maybe come out through this and has been enforced more so today than any other day is the naivety that Hird has shown re Dank.

At least there's still Bassett ;)

I have a mate that's mates with a bloke that's the cousin of Bassett's kid's best friend.

Anyway, he reckons he's regularly seen Bassett carrying around a little syringe kit with him, and injecting himself in the stomach with god-knows-what (but it's probably experimental horse stimulant). Doesn't even really make an effort to hide it.

You can't let a bloke like that into your club.

LOL

As do most diabetics.....

I think the biggest unanswered question is why the **** are coaches injecting this stuff, i mean i can understand players needing it, but coaches?

Type-A personality fitness types. Wanting to rage against the dying of the light and feel like they're not in their late 30s or 40s. Look good, feel good, play good.

I miss the days when ex-footballers would go gracefully into middle age, like the Jarman brothers did.

The plot thickens, really looking like Hird and Essendon in deep, deep doo doo!!!

Doctor Bruce Reid's disenchantment with the fitness and conditioning regime embraced by Essendon coach James Hird has added another damaging layer to the star coach's predicament following allegations he took banned substances.
A respected medico who has been part of the club's inner sanctum for more than three decades, Reid had told the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and the AFL he was marginalised by that inner sanctum after voicing his fears to several levels of the club's hierarchy.
Reid is not only the Hird family's general practitioner but it was in his offices that club chairman David Evans met Hird when the club legend was being lured back to the club. That he warned Hird and others about the practices being adopted by Dean Robinson and Stephen Dank has been a matter of grave concern for the AFL.
Reid and the club's other doctor Brendan De Morton have been interviewed by ASADA with AFL investigators in attendance. He said he wrote to the board last year expressing his misgivings but according to Essendon on Thursday that letter was never tabled.

Hird is expected to be interviewed next week.
Thursday's allegations made by Dank came as no surprise to the AFL or to Essendon, which has become increasingly concerned at Hird's role in the supplements regime.
As recently as Thursday night Evans was briefing parents of Essendon players in Perth. This time the club has included the families of former players along with the current list. The brother of Port Adelaide recruit Angus Monfries, for example, was summoned to Windy Hill on Wednesday night.

Have only been following this a little bit..

Has the AFL hinted at what the possible penalties will be?

They haven't achieved any success since Hirdy took over - so stripping premiership points for those years won't mean anything.

Are they facing a loss of premiership points this year? Fines? Loss of future draft picks?

Leigh sales seemed pretty confident of Hird and his staff were right into this.Evidently it improved there match day performance, decreased anxiety which leads to better decision making and provided the energy to get threw what can be grewling match days.

If who we think is in on this, all traces of his name should be removed from our club, wherever possible. ZERO tolerance.

If things are substantiated then sackings, fines and bans. Premiership points are only meaningful if they find out before seasons end then strip them for this year. Making them play for 0 points is counter productive IMO. Draft pick penalties are punishment which doesn't fit the crime. Players being banned for next season seems a fair penalty. Young players reached the size they are now with chemical assistance. 6 to 12 months out of the game due to the advantage they gained on their draft peers seems fair.

What would be fair is they strip points from the games they win. But only award points if they get beaten. Got to have some incentive to win games.....
Yeah that's fair, I wasn't expecting to actually get them, we certainly didn't deserve them

Well, Goody used to play for us. So, we will be forced to hire Hird and Goody, who will then be suspended. Following that we will be stripped of all premiership points because of our inside knowledge of the doping scandal.

Then we'll thank the AFL for it and give dangefield to Geelong in a trade where we actually loose draft picks, somehow.

If they are found guilty of doping, they played us with doped up players.........Unfair playing field. If I was a punter, and lost money on Essendon wins, I have a right to reimbursement, if their found to of doped (which appears pretty obvious and the investigation seems a formality)

I agree to the first part.

Disagree with the bolded part. So who should reimburse the punters? Essendon didn't make you punt on them. The betting agency won't be getting money back from me people who won money on Essendon wins - so who fronts this money?

Good point, The people making from making money from essendons alleged cheating?. Lance Armstrong lost alot of sponsors, has been calls for him to hand back prize money. Even though his cheating wasn't simply about the glory, if he didn't cheat he would of been in a minority.

Yeah I wasn't taking about us playing them doped, one would hope they stopped doing whatever they were doing
