Tonight a virus popped up on my computer, but I did not think much of it (I am a bit of a novice at such things and simply clicked on delete on the virus protection thing) but every time I try and Google something , I get to the page where I have the results of much search but every time I click on a link on there it redirects back to the results page but pauses and simply shows a white, blank screen. Any ideas what the go is there or is it just a problem Google is having ATM? Thank you. Stats Man.

edit: Mind you, Google is working fine for me in Internet Explorer, Firefox is the one having the trouble.

Mate i'm pretty sure i had this virus or a similar one about 2 months ago. However yours may be not as extreme i'll give you a quick run down my brother opened up an email in his junk folder on hotmail. A couple of days later whenever we searched on google and clicked on the links it would go to other pages of similiar info. Say if we searched cars and the first link was carsales.com and we clicked on that it would go to a page on cars but in the address box it would be some other random website. We would click back and a white screen would appear.

It got bloody frustrating sometimes google would be okay but the majority of the time it would mislead you! A couple of weeks later it just got to a stage that the virus was eating away at our computer and we couldn't copy and paste, the computer was running un bearably slow, etc. In the end instead of going to some nerds and getting charged we just re installed the operating system ourselves using the cds we have been given with our computer when we got it. We had a backup hard drive so we were lucky enough to move all our stuff on our comp over to that which saved majority of our files.

Mate the best thing to do is attack the problem now before it gets out of hand and you start losing stuff. I'm sure if we left it a month or so our computer would of stopped turning on. Firstly you should get someone in or take your hard drives some where just to get it looked at. It might be nothing however if it turns out to be what i have your computer could be completly scrambled! Best of luck let us know what the outcome is!

Holy crap!!!! Why not smash the whole computer with a hammer???

You don't need to do anything even remotely this "drastic"

Download Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (still free).

Download Spybot Search and Destroy (free)

If you are familiar with the software you have installed and feel at home in the Registry then
Download HijackThis (Free)

Open your browser and clear all cookies and temp files.

Install, update and run MalwareByte's.
This will eradicate the majority of crap, most of which are not actually virii but ****en annoying cookies and browser homepage hijackers.

Next, reboot you computer and run Malwarebyte's again in case any of the sneaky bastards were resident in memory the first time.

Next install, update and run SpyBot search nd Destroy.

These two in tandem should clear any browser hijackers or unwanted cookies.
Next run HiJackThis.

This will list all programs currently being run from the registry.

Very carefully go through the list.
Do nothing yet but take note of any entries which do not appear to belong to any software you know you have installed. Read the docs which come with the software and if unsure don't do anything.

Next update and run your installed anti-virus software and do a full scan.

If you don't have anti-virus software then you should not have the internet.:thumbsu:
