Pick 16 - Zane Zakostelsky

Height 196cm
Weight 89kg
DOB 14.12.2005

Admittedly a bit of a bolt from the blue, the athletic key tall will unlikely be available post a pick in the mid 20s and I did not want to tempt fate.

ZZ has had a large upward trajectory and seen improvement across the 2023 year, culminating in a BOG performance in the colts GF for Claremont racking up 22 disposals and 18 hit outs.

So why for swans? Positional need, upside and late DOB means he falls into a nice sweet spot. Coupled with his stellar athletic gifts and room for improvement due to his late choice to play AFL, he has a huge amount of upside that is hard to ignore.

Others considered at this pick Charlie Edwards (almost picked him), Tholstrup and Hardeman.

GoSaints what was the rationale in giving up next years first and two later 1st round picks for a CHB, when we desparately need midfielders?

I can understand if you were to target McKercher, Duursma or Sanders but why Curtin.

Firstly fair question, thanks for asking.

Secondly, the rational was that I feel we need an improvement at the back as well as the midfield, I’ve gone with the look ahead of next years draft being having some good midfielder, or even 2025 looks to have some strong midfield options as well, if we don’t trade in for next year. Also for our last pick I’ve got a mature age midfielder for our list, I actually think we’ve got enough class in our midfield with Pou and NAS starting as strong core to build from.
