Just having a browse of the rules and found this:
"NOTE that in the 2010 competition, players who are actually named and in the starting 22 for any match, AND score a 0 for any reason, will NO LONGER be replaced by an emergency. Their 0 score will also have an affect on their value, being recorded as having played a game. "

... so does this mean that when the teams come out, and a player is names, even if they are injured or withdrawn before the game starts, you emergency's score isnt used ?!

or does it mean that come game time if you player is listed as playing, and gets injured, say in warmup/first 30 secs, or just does utterly crap, that in that instacne his zero score would count?

Coz the first option would almost render emergency's useless wouldn't it..?

If the player is a late withdrawal then he will not be "in the starting 22". It will only apply to players who play and score 0 (happened 4-5 times last year with players who got injured before they could register a stat).

Sorry if its been covered here before, but whats everyones thoughts on going into round 1 with cash in the bank. I have just traded in Lenny Hayes for Dustin Martin so have a spare 300k, I am reasonably happy with the rest of my team so was thinking it might be a good tactic.

This is the most important part of your post. I personally wouldn't do it, but then again I am not in charge of your team.

300k equates to 68ppg that is out off play. If you only start trading at say round 6 that's 408 points. However if you start trading at round 3 for improving players then it's not impossible to make up a 136 point deficit.

A good tactic for what? Spending later?
Invest the moola now into your starting 30. Think of it as a high yielding interest bearing account.

BTW, DT happiness is generally a transient state and often only ever precedes round 1.

"Add one (or all) of our celebrity coaches to your league and play against them head-to-head, all season!"

How long has that been there?? I only just noticed it. Looks like all 16 teams from the celeb league are available to play against ala Sheedy in Supercoach.

I'm willing to accept it's been there for ages and I'm just blind.

I think they're only there to fill empty league spots? Looks like it has been added in the last couple of days.
Yeah, i noticed that today, today was the first time, i rekon it was added yesterday or today

I like to call this technique the Security Blanket.

300k is a little bit too much. However, I think it is a very clever technique if you're not sure whether you trust pre-season form, but want to take a few punts anyway. It allows you to easily trade up a mid-ranger, who doesn't perform early, for a gun.

Many will criticize this technique because you're planning to trade from the get-go, but at least it's tactical trade rather than a forced trade. The other criticism is that you lack a little intestinal fortitude, in that you can't man up and commit to a line-up. Be that as it may, it doesn't change the fact that it is clever way to sneak more quality mid-rangers in to your team.

It also means that if you get really screwed on rookies, you can more easily uptrade from one of them.

The downside for me is that it can make it tempting to take too many risks, but if you get the balance right, it could mean glory.

Hey guys, i really need to get in contact with someone from EDT. Can someone please PM me a contact name or can an EDT member PM me. I am trying to organise the league of leagues for supercoach.

Sorry buddy but EDT's not who you need to be talking to on this matter anymore ;)

I pay no attention to picking players based on whether or not they're duel-positioned. I've heard of people sacrificing better options to get another player just so they can flip him around different positions.

My view on it is that you should pick your team as you usually would, not favouring certain players just because he is duel-position (unless your heart is set on that player regardless). Once your team is completed to the best you think it can be, if there happens to be players that can be swapped later, thats just an added bonus.

Just my opinion anyway. :thumbsu:

Great post. I think this new rule is going to be the difference for a lot of people finishing in the top 3000. If you can have a couple of links in your side you will go a long way in avoiding a 0 and or having to trade.

At the same time though, I wouldn't sacrifice any of my picks just because they are or are not DP players. Like you said if they are it's an added bonus and can really provide you with some coverage come rounds 15-22 when most of the bullshit injuries / resting happens, + 1 or 2 week suspensions

Is anyone who has hodge or another high scoring Hawthorn player considering they play MELB and hope they score around 130. Do you think it's a risk worth taking Hodge as (c) over Bartel?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

If, in any round of AFL DT, you name a vice captain only and no captain, does the vice captain become your captain?

If the answer is no, then disregard the rest of this post.

But if the answer is yes then there maybe a loophole available to exploit in the new partial lockout system.

What if one was to name a vice captain only in the Thursday night Carlton v Richmond game - say Gibbs or Deledio for example.

After seeing how they perform, then decide whether you want to name a captain or not. If they notch a 120 - you'd probably take it - if they scunge out an 80, then you'd name a (c) and try to better it.

Does the partial lockout system mean you can try your captain before you buy?

People have talked about this before (on DT Talk perhaps?) and it is true.

If you do have a Rich/Carl player then you can put him VC and see what he gets to determine whether you should put a captain in or keep the VC's score.

It's a little bit of cheating, but it'll work.:)

^ interesting.

Just a random thought, say you have the standard Shuey/Bastinac mid rookies and both are not named. Do you
a) keep both because that's who you have decided on is the best choice or
b) trade out one of them for someone is named or
c) trade both of them out to players that have been named

Just thinking out aloud...this would've happened last year with Mitch Robinson..and we all know how that turned out.

You need to weigh up if you need cash really early or you can wait it out a bit.

Personally, i think if they get named round 1 it shows they're probably rated pretty highly by the coach. If he's giving them a game in round 1 then they're likely to reappear soonish even if they're dropped.

That said, i wouldn't be all over a no-name rookie just because they are named to play this week. If they didn't get many games during NAB it's probably for a reason.

Yes i swapped out Robinson for Liam Anthony(&*!^W()*!&)*@W&!)

Still annoyed about it.

The only rookie i'd likely swap is Banner to Howlett if one or the other don't get named.
