Autopsy Got away with a win!

We had a few useful cameos in that game.

Tauru's two species true ganechangers and inspiration,

some great snaps from Ryan and Higgins,

Hill a leader's game all day,

Sinclair his standard is now exceptional,

Stocker a warrior that should be a lock now,

Wilson, Garcia, and Owens very good,

Windy and Wilkie impervious shutting their two dangermen out if the game,

Sharman's shift back,

Hall and Nas just need moments to scare the opposition,

Silvagni and Wood much improved from the previous week,

Carroll good navigating out of congestion as advertised,

Boxshall and Flanders building,

Phillipou was decent early,

DeKoning doing well in the ruck,

Marshall useful around the ground at times.

The disposal, goal kicking marking and tackling will need more consistency and improvement if we are to compete, and we looked a bit clueless when trying to get them to come at us, that part needs a rethink

The clock was all over the place. Three minutes were added to the clock in the third quarter only to disappear again later in the quarter. Without closer study I can't confirm that the exact same time with added and removed, but either way there has been no mention of it.

Maybe the AFL has just discovered time travel!
Given their collective heads are usually up their collective arses, the secret to time travel must have been in their colon!

GWS had 16,000 for their first game of the season when the weather wasn't shocking, and there wasn't a major event five minutes away (Women's Asian Cup Final was next door at Stadium Australia which drew 80,000 on Saturday).

This one's a beat up.

A bit off topic but relevant to the attached post. Saw a comment on main board suggesting that the number of registered AFL players in Western Sydney is alarmingly low and going backwards fast. A decade and a half into this 'experiment' is it time to move them somewhere else? Aside from the early years GWS have consistently put out competitive teams yet crowds remain an embarrassment. They must be costing the AFL a fortune and surely this is not sustainable. Seems the AFL are too proud to concede this is NRL heartland and probably always will be. Move them to Canberra, Darwin, Sunshine Coast or anywhere but Western Sydney. They are bleeding the rest of the competiton dry.

All pertinent points but the AFL is making money hand over fist so they arent bleeding anyone dry.

Not going to happen now a 19th licence has been awarded. Those other places are more likely to get their own team than have GWS moved there.

Saturday was a confluence of events working against any crowd.

Haven't had a chance to post, so have a few late thoughts.

- When Sharman drops sitters it's because he's already mentally taken the mark and has switched off. You can quite literally see it in his body language. I have never seen a more bipolar player in terms of having absolute sticky mitts and dropping the simplest marks. I am hoping it's just a phase and he works his way through it. He was huge when swung back late.

- Sinclair and Wilkie our two best players, both a joy to watch and showing no signs of slowing down just yet. Wilkie seems to be playing sore, so the bye next week has come at a perfect time for us, as much as I hate opening round.

- I'm not too worried about Pou because it's clear he was being managed and had the 2nd lowest TOG of any player. I don't know why they picked him if that was the plan, unless they identified this as a must win game and thought his value was worth the risk compared to who would come in for him. Either way, he got through unscathed and hopefully is ready to go next week.

- GWS are still a quality side even with their current outs. Noone had this one pencilled in as a win, we shouldn't be pessimistic about this result and it's given us the week off the media blowtorch.

- TDK had a shocker according to champion data but I thought he played fairly well. If he kicks his set shots it's a different story. This is an ongoing issue for he and Marshall and will cost us again at some point. Just have to kick the basic ones.

He feels like he is about to explode. Obviously confidence was high after playing them last year. Once he gets that every week he’ll be a freak. That Pies game nothing came off but you could see the raw talent and drive. Looks like an impossible match up for other teams. Can go forward like Zac Bailey or rip the wing apart at lightening pace.

He has the highest non-NAS ceiling of any of our young players, and is figuring out how good he is in real time. Very exciting game, his decision making is slowly improving week by week

Interesting point. Highest non Naz cieling.

1. Hall
2. Tauru
3. Pou
4. Wilson
I think all could be all aus tbh

Hall is already close enough to elite. I feel like Wilson has that X factor, speed, strength and goal kicking that could set him apart from just about any other player. If it all comes off it could be the perfect storm.

Phillipou has some amazing traits too but probably a bit less X factor. Tauru could absolutely be anything. Working out his best role will go a long way towards champion or very good player.

I know it’s only early but when did Phillipou turn into a strictly handball only player. It’s like the speed and athleticism we saw towards the end of 2024 has just vanished.

I think it could be an over-correction from his pre season games where he wasn't taking the first option and trying to do it all himself/being a bit selfish.

Seems like the kind of person who would take that feedback extremely seriously and go too far in the other direction.

I think it’s just getting used to the speed.

It reminds me of early days petracca. Trac would either be too slow or too quick. Genreally the decision itself was right though. I think it’s just getting used to the speed of the midfield.

Garcia and windy suffered early days too, as did Hunter. I think it’s just getting reps in. We saw the year he finnished strong he started to think his way through the congestion. That’s the aim for him imo.

If theres one player whose best could be a real x factor, its Mattaes.

He's ticking along at the moment, learning the ropes as a senior AFL player. If he puts it all together, his confidence and drive will eclipse Nas and Hall, he will become a true leader.

Big If though. If he doesnt quite get there, and his confidence suffers and he never realy finds his position or role in the club, he could end up similar to Jack Billings.

I know he wants it, we just have to hope the coaches can help him find it.

Pou is in his fourth season. All the points about him learning are well made.

But I'd take Billings' fourth season output from Pou right now a million times out of a million.

4 season but less than 50 games.
As I said, all the points about Pou's youth and lack of experience are valid.

23 disposals and a goal per game we'd all take right now from him. Which is what Billings did in his fourth season.

TL;DR: much of the Billings disrespect in these parts is unwarranted and not based in fact.

As completely irrational as it is, Billings will always be disrespected by those who blame him for not being Bont.
