Gutless Graham aquitted himself decently, i don't think he was shocking, he just wasn't great. Watching him certainly didn't have me kicking myself for letting him go. I think he'll be a middle of the range player at Richmond.

Gav stop justifying the Polak trade so blindly and open your eyes. Polak is improving and as much as you want him to fail, in his very first performance for the Tigers he has produced an effort to a standard above almost everything he has done in the last 2 years for you guys.

Don't be scared of the possibility he could be a star, there is only one way for him and that's up.

21 possies in his first game is a nice first step, save the mindless bagging for if he actually puts in some poor performances.

Benny stop justifying the Polak trade so blindly and open your eyes. Polak is improving and as much as you want him to succeed, in his very first performance for the Tigers he has produced an effort at a standard as almost everything he has done in the last 2 years for us.

Don't be scared of the possibility he could be a failure.

21 possies in his first game is a reasonable performance, save the mindless pumping him up for if he actually puts in some good performances.

Perspective, it is a wonderful thing.

Just looking over his stats for '06 but the highest he ever got was 17 (although that game was better than this one).

How can it be a bad thing for a player to get more possessions than what they've had in 2 years?

Diiferent game plans. We go long and direct. Richmond go round in circles.

Let it go Benny , At no time Sunday night did I wish that Polly was out there.

Hope He is of use to your lot.

So he racked up possessions in Richmond's backline as they were getting flogged??? Not really a solid basis for judging his performance.

I'll admit to only watching a few minutes here and there of the game, but in those short snippets, I saw him outmarked in a contest twice, once by Ottens and once by Mooney.

Now I'm certainly not going to judge him on that, as for all I know he may have grabbed or spoiled everything else that came his way. So my questions to Tiger fans or anyone else who watched the full game (and I am presuming he played most of the game in defence, which of course may be wrong):

1) Did he play on an opponent or was he floating around loose?

2) Was he able to consistently beat/spoil his opponent if he had one?

3) If he was loose was he marking incoming balls from the opposition or was he just collecting cheap kicks around the backline?

I think that is a better basis for judging his performance for the game. For what it's worth I hope he does well at Tigerland as he is a great player to watch when he's pulling down everything that comes anywhere near him. But to hear that he is going to be a superstar because he racked up a few possessions in a backline of a team getting whooped is a bit rich.

Great response picko. Most of their defenders would have reasonable stats I would think. In answer to those questions;

1) Mainly played on an opponent, notably Mooney, but also Ottens and N Ablett.

2) No. He was beaten by his opponent/s, as was the entire Richmond backline. I agree that he would have been their best tall defender in a bleak game for the Tiges, and if I was looking for a positive, I'd pluck Polak. But the reality is that he is no longer a developing player who does not have the physical ability to match/beat an opponent, although he is getting used to another club and style, and will need to get used to the idea that he is the man responsible for stopping someone.

3) He wasn't doing the loose man in defence (third man up) that he did for the Dockers. I can't find stats, but I would be surprised if he had as many marks as Ottens or Mooney who ere both very good.

Yeah he wasn't loose man, he played FB Terry said (Gaspar must have taken BP ?)

As far as possessions go they were not the cheap kind that Joel Bowden is known for, he really did earn them and he didn't cough it up once. For example a player would be in trouble he'd position himself for the handball receive then run it forward and handball it along to a bursting Andrew Raines who'd kick it 50m.

He had more handballs than kicks which is why he didn't stand out as much as you'd think, but I would rate the quality of his disposal a lot better than his reputation (had a good day imo).

When he was beaten by his opponent it was usually due to a quick low kick to his player on the lead... I didn't find myself ever going "damn it you should've had him Polak!" like I was constantly doing to Gaspar. I really would like to see how he negates the opposition's best forwards in the season because no matter how well he plays with the ball he can't have 4 goals kicked on him ever game.

During the early pasrt of the game I thought Ottens, a former Richmond player. was playing FF. Gasper was on Ottens. Well, at least he was trying to be on him. I think Polak was on Mooney who would have been at CHF. Unless Wallet had him on some minion in a pocket??? Gardiner? N Ablett?

During the interviews with Terry during each quarter he said Polak was playing Full Back at that stage.

Make of that what you will, his words not mine.

The idea of Polak as a FB would leave me seriously questioning a coaches credentials.

Either that, or it was a NAB Cup game. :p

Shane Tuck was in the ruck remember!

This was not a serious game for Terry (he wouldn't spend several minutes per quarter chatting to the commentators otherwise!)

Of course he would if it got him publicity. If it wasn'ta serious game he wouldn't have become more and more depressed as the thrashing went on.

Polak played on Cam Mooney with a short stint on Ottens in the second quarter. Mooney kicked 4 goals on him.

Polak was one of Richmond better defenders in a very dificult task because of the amount and quality of delivery Geelongs forwardline was getting.

He will undoubtably be their best tall defender (I don't consider J.Bowden a tall defender). It was a good trade for Richmond who are short on KP defenders. Probably a good trade for you who have way too many KP defenders.

Agree. And therein lies the problem for Richmond. He was beaten by your second best forward. And, he was outmarked by him, which is his strength.

Polak should have been our 1st or 2nd best defender, but he is happy to cruise. Because he will get picked week in, week out at the Tiges he will need to get out of that mindset, and beat an opponent. If he thinks his opponent getting 4 goals is ok, then Richmond are stuffed.

Of course if he gets his act together, then there is no reason he can't be a good player. Definitely a good trade for Richmond.

I know some of you will probably still follow his career so if you are interested there is an article on his first game here

Basically it says Terry was happy for whatever reasons.
