The person that becomes the Joker is in the show but it's one of several characters in the show.

I don't mind that, it keeps you guessing as to who becomes the Clown Prince of crime.

Alright let me put on my comic book nerd hat here.

The Joker can NOT appear in this series. The Joker exists solely BECAUSE Batman exists. He's the mayhem to Batman's control. That's the great irony. Without Batman would the Joker exist? Batman foils the Joker and saves lives, but so many still die. And is it BECAUSE he is Batman and he exists?

Can not appear in this series.

They have already said they will introduce a whole bunch of people who might be the joker before we see the actual joker and as other have said it will likely be like they did with Penguin he will just be small time on his rise up the ladder

It was very, very average. Acting was terrible (except for Logue) and some of the writing was appalling
(why the f**k did Gordon tell Bruce they framed the guy, i get it he needs to become Batman and that closure is not gonna help him to Batman stuff, but seriously what kind of sick f**k tells a kid whose parents were murdered that "we killed an innocent man looking for you parents killers and i need you to keep that s**t on the downlow")
it looked cheap too which is weird because i think it has pretty good production values? I am a huge fanboy but i'm happy for people to adapt the source material for other things, its not that precious to me, but if youre going to take something as iconic as Gotham and the Batman lore and re do it, you have to do it well. I'm giving this a run because i am a huge Batman fan but its started really poorly.

I didn't mind it will def keep watching, the thing is fanboys will never be happy no matter what. Each comic book writer puts their own twist on characters and in regards to origin story's they're always changing with each reboot.

The writers/producers have to make it appeal to the casual and uber fans and they will always lean towards to the more causal fan....

The joker will remain a mystery and if they go the full story arc will not make an appearance until the end when batman does.

BTW Any chance of channel nein showing it anytime this year or will it be a case of next year with a million ads during the cricket this summer...

Watched the pilot last night and think it was better than I expected.

Was pleased with Gordon's choice at the end of the episode to 'conform' (without actually conforming) so he could try and enact change from the inside. Reckon if he had of refused and stuck to his morals this early on, he'd wind up making too many powerful enemies early on without having the resources to protect those he cares about.

I reckon they should have kept the Waynes around until the end of season 1 (instead of killing them off in the first 5/10 mins, though I can see why they needed to start with a bang - pun somewhat intended). Would have been great to see the Wayne's trying to improve/clean up Gotham only to be gunned down in the finale or something. I like the actor who plays Alfred but he definitely came across as a bit too rough than what I think he should be.

Really liked the casting of Bullock, Oswald, Mooney and the young Bruce and Catwoman (I think the casting of Oswald and Selina Kyle both have the right 'look' for the characters).

Will definitely watch the next few eps to see where they go. Pilots generally are a bit off the beat/in need of refining so perhaps with a few more episodes under the belt, the characters/direction will all come together.

I just saw an ad for this on Channel 9.

Seems they've finally decided to buy something of quality for once.

Notice they haven't given a date for it though

Will be the same thing they do with Arrow, Aus TV won't see it until months after America and channel 9 will wonder why ratings aren't very good

Yep...too long to wait.

Good to see SBS are showing the new South Park like 2-3 days after it airs in the U.S.

My money's on they'll flog the shizen out of it during the summer of cricket and then once they finally air it it will be on a secondary channel with in weeks due to poor ratings...

So much for wanting to combat piracy in this country

Also why isn't this on Netflix?

Just watched the pilot. Was OK I guess. Though there were a lot of poorly acted characters, and they tried to cram a bit too much into one episode. Probably would have been better spacing the character introductions over a few episodes.

But there's enough there to persist with, so I'll keep watching to see where they take it. The Penguin intrigues me.

Pretty much this exact post. A pretty interesting idea/take on things, will definitely be watching the whole season.

The Penguin was easily the most captivating character, really good choice of actor.

This show is just too corny - I thought Arrow was bad.

Don't rate Gordon, he's too wooden as an actor (although it's pretty hard to follow Gary Oldman) and looks like he could be Wayne's older teenage brother.

Fish Mooney is bland, Cousin Andy as the mayor doesn't work and the whole show just feels tacky even though the locations look good and I imagine they're working with a decent budget - GCPD looks great.

The acting is going to be somewhat subpar because the rights have cost them a shot tonne of money, also the sets and scenery (cgi) shots would suck up some cash....

Bad acting is hardly a reason to not watch.

Bland story lines and bad dialogue don't help. Will give it a couple more eps.
