Anyway, I thought it was a good episode.

Very interesting to see the reactions of Bruce and Gordon towards the vigilante.

Did Batman ever kill people? I don't think the Balloon Man would be much different.

I like how they end each episode with a bit of a cliffhanger to make you want to tune in next week (instead of just wrapping everything up nicely), gives you a reason to watch the next ep.

Pretty interested to see what they do with Cobblepot too, seems like he's being built to be a very central character on the show.

Also, I could be wrong but was Babara ever portrayed as bisexual in the comics? Having her and a past romance with that Major Crimes detective lady seems kind of random/gratuitous unless there's a bigger plot coming up later in the season?

Montoya was (at least in some versions) a lesbian in the comics; I feel like it is mainly a nod to her, and also there to add some drama between Barbara and Jim. Will wait and see where they take it. A few 'flashback' scenes would be great. :D

Haha. Was also a bit surprised with the revelation Barbara was a former drug user - wonder how she ended up with a straght shooter like Gordon? Would be pretty interesting if they did do some flashbacks!

I called Montoya to be gay afew pages back after episode 1. I still think they should of gone with a younger Essen and have her as a blonde. and have Loeb as the Comish. Im kinda surprised they have Essen as the captain if they had her as a young detective they could use it as a love triangle like in Year One. and TV shows love the love triangle story arcs.

It will be interesting to see if Oswolt makes his power move this early against Fish or Falcone. Or how they do the war between Falcone and Maroni.

I kinda wish Rupert Thone was in the show but then it might be a little to much for casual fans. or just to confusing to watch.

Finally got around to watching the pilot.

Was hoping the pilot script I read was an early draft.

Really poor.

Watched the first 3 episodes and I'm quickly losing interest
What don't you guys like about it? Not having a go, just interested. :)

Been hanging for a Jim Gordon series, or even stand-alone movie, for donkey's so I was already on board for this. Even then my expectations weren't that high. The Wire in Gotham City was pure fantasy wish fulfilment that was never gonna be realized.

Paper-thin characterizations was my main flaw. Beautiful production design... but perhaps too beautiful and clean. Same with some of the casting (but hey, it's network TV.) Found the artifice of the whole world distancing, too. Maybe the heightened reality could come down a bit.

I mean, s#it, pilots are the toughest. They're almost impossible to get right. So I'll give Gotham a few eps to see if finds its rhythm... though maybe I wouldn't be as forgiving if it didn't come with the Batman mythology.

Anyway, I'll watch it again tomorrow night on 9...

The pilot kinda felt like 'Days of our Lives' set in Gotham. Some interesting ideas (do like Penguin) but the script just seems mega-cliched in parts.

FOX GIVES GOTHAM A FULL SEASON ORDER
Gotham's Season 1 will have even more episodes.

Gotham, which was picked up straight-to-series by FOX last year for what was planned to be 16-episode first season, has just had its freshman run extended to 22 episodes.

It's an odd show.

It feels a bit schizophrenic in some ways. Most of the time, it's dark yet zany and irreverent, which actually sort of does capture the sort of feel a place like Gotham and it's inhabitants should have (I imagine) and perhaps is true to the comics (I haven't read many though, so yeah).

Other times it tries to be serious cop show, mostly through Gordon himself. And then that scene with the two women who kissed comes to mind. I'm not complaining with that (wink) but the actual dialog and relationship between them felt very forced to me and thrown in for the sake of it. I guess I find the mood to be very erratic.

I'm happy to stick by it though. I do like that it can be not-so serious sometimes and I've actually had a few laughs along the way, like when one of the baloon victims came falling down on that poor old lady. Dark humour for sure. Donal Logue is great as usual and they really casted the Penguin brilliantly.
