S***s me when people say he'll be a one hit wonder - they dont know his history cos these are the people caught up in all the commericialised crap out there.

Agreed. This happened to Augie March after they released "One Crowded Hour" - a decent song, but by that stage they'd already released three other brilliant albums. However, you'd get a lot of turds that would yell out for it at gigs and dismiss the rest of their catalogue.

What music do you like ? I mean I'm not even going to pretend I like Augie March, but you seem to poke holes in everyone's music taste like a pretentious twat.

That's completely not true. Thurman has never poked holes in my musical taste or anyone else with good taste.

??

Augie March are sacred cows now? Pardon me all over the place then.

I am a pretentious twat though, you got that right.

Yeah look great achievement but as a passionate fan of Australian music I just wish it was a good song... I know you are a Sherbet fan and they wrote far more beautiful songs than this, Midnight Oil wrote lyrically and politically better songs, The Church and many other bands wrote better melodies and more attractive pop/rock music, geez I could go on and on...

Right time right place for the lad and good luck to him but **** we have produced so much more better music than this that I am astounded this particular song was what the yanks latched onto.

Agreed. Some of the negativity here is sad and pathetic. Anyone would think he was part of One Direction the way a few are carrying on about him here. He is hard working, talented and been writing and producing good music for quite some time. Yes he has lucked out having his song on Glee which has caused US popularity but that's not his fault.

Read an article the other day that said that Kimbra wasnt his first choice collaborator, intially it was a bigger 'name' Australian singer, and that she just up and walked out of the studio mid take. Just wondering if anybody knew who it was?
Totally wrapped for Gotye and Kimbra. Gotye @ Meredith a few years back was bloody amazing. Had the whole crowd, completely unprompted, singing 'Hearts a Mess' back to him, and you could see that he was becoming really emotional and was struggling to hold it together a bit! Amazing artist.

Bloody good on him. The video caught my eye when I was fast forwarding through it a few times after taping some late night shows on MTV and eventually I thought it looked so interesting that I had to hear the song and I liked it from the get-go. Works especially well when you're just relaxing late at night.

And it hasn't been successful just here and in the US, either, having been at no.1 for at least 5 weeks in the UK and 16 weeks in a row in Poland, as well as going to no.1 in 14 other countries:

"By mid-April 2012, the song had reached #1 on the music charts in 18 countries, particularly in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, and the USA.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-2 On 12 February 2012, the song topped the charts in the United Kingdom for the week ending 18 February 2012 and climbed back to #1 for another week on 26 February 2012, staying in that position for further four weeks.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-3 In Kimbra's home country, New Zealand, the song has also reached #1. It is Gotye and Kimbra's most successful single and their first #1 song in Australia and New Zealand, also causing their previous singles and albums to chart in the top 100 in Australia. In the United States, the song became a crossover hit peaking at number one on both the Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts, while also having charted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-Smirke-4 As of April 2012, the song had sold 4.5 million copies worldwide according to Universal Republic.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-Smirke-4

After a week of high profile television appearances in the USA in April 2012, including Glee on 10 April 2012; American Idol on 11 April 2012; and Gotye and Kimbra's performance on Saturday Night Live on April 14, 2012, it topped the iTunes Top 100 Singles chart with 542,000 downloads, the fourth highest since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003. On April 18, 2012, the song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first Australian single to do so since Savage Garden's "I Knew I Loved You" in 2000.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-8 As of April 26, 2012, the song’s official video on YouTube had been viewed 179 million times.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-9
The "Glee" cast's cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know" sold 152,000 downloads in its first week and debuted on 18 April 2012 on the Digital Songs chart at No. 10 and the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 26." (Wikipedia). :thumbsu:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somebody_That_I_Used_to_Know#cite_note-10

The Music board has turned into the biggest pile of shit. I was probably naive to assume it wouldn't be hijacked by elitist hipsters.

Not sacred at all. I think they're very shit. I haven't necessarily posted my music taste on here, but i'm just curious as to what you deem as good music.

Look through my posting history if you really could give a shit. I wouldnt know where to start.

Good on him but doesn't change that I really don't like that song- Mumford & Sons winning Album of the year speaks volumes of how prestigious winning a grammy is.
Still not as bad as Wolfmother winning a grammy for best hard rock performance.

amazing effort winning the grammy for best song......... good on him... not personally into his tunes but has
plenty of talent and his own thing going on.....
Loved how they were like school kids in total awe of Prince when he gave it to them too...

When Prince opened the envelope, he said " I love this song".

I did not need confirmation from him to like it. I think it is a really catchy pop song and did the first time that I heard it. But it has been criticised as being light weight, so if one of the greatest recording artists of our time openly declares that he loves it, that is a pretty good recommendation to me.

(To be honest, I have probably heard it enough for a while, but that is another matter).
