Buddy touched up Rance, then Gourdis went onto him at which point buddy copped a corky almost immediately and was lame for the rest of the game so for good/bad i wouldnt judge Gourdis on that matchup.
Buddy dominated on Rance in the first half and Gourdis held him goaless for around 15 min until the corkey.

And im not just using that alone as a judge, same as Nason who had only 2 touches that were fantastic and gutsy as all hell. Sometimes you only need to see a couple of things to make you think you have a quality keeper.

I remember a few here posting similar after that match, and were roundly criticised especially the Nason pump up as getting way ahead of ourselves.

Yep, you are right. Rance was useless, eh

very happy hes getting a game defiantely want to see how he goes
hopefully he does well and gets elevated onto the seniour list for next year
as for his rumoured poor kicking/ decision making it is up to players such as newman connors and deledio to try and get around him for the handball off as much as possible as those are the guys we want kicking out of our backline

That's why I said 'almost immediately' whats 15 mins in the whole context? sweet FA....

as for saying ur not just using that alone as a judge, u did mention this earlier....
The Goo has been fantastic for the Burgers, but it was that 15-20 minutes on Buddy in the NAB Cup that showed the little glimmer we could have something special. Time will tell.

Maybe set to line-up on Goodes?

He turned it over with some seriously bad kicking last week, including a couple that went along the ground when trying to hit up a target, and decision making can be poor from what I have seen at training. That said, runs in straight lines, quickish and has a seriously impressive physique.

All the very best to him and looking forward to him running out on Sunday

Been a long road for this bloke - with plenty of speedhumps - his folks, friends and teammates would be absolutely rapt for him. As am I.:thumbsu:
Suggest you go to ABC iview and watch the replay, apart from 1 grubber at high speed Goo's game was almost faultless and his decision making was outstanding

It also shows he has continually improved enough to regain on a year contract. Don't forget this is his first year he has played not under TW !
He is a fair way on front of Rance and Post, who both are showing concerning signs, Dea's injured and McGuanne has played enough games that he should be winning his spot solely on ability and form not to give him experience !
hmm hes the same age as rance and post. all turn 21 this yr.
hes in his third season and for a tall to start breaking into a team third yr for games is not all that unusual.
like someone else said slot him in for the rest of the yr and lets see what he has to offer.

his case is different to most players. he was taken psd in 08.
being such a late pick he was never going to get a game in 08. he was then put on the rookie list rather than being delisted having shown enough attributes to be kept but with enough weaknesses that said it will take awhile to develop him.
pretty hard to get a games from the rookie list. you cant throw him in for a taste like we have done with other talls he needed to be promoted first but first.
he should have been promoted in front of both polak and roberts. from where hes come from hes done well.
people should remember where hes come from and temper expectations at this time. its not about him dominating its just about him getting a game and developing a bit more, finding his feet and getting used to the tempo.

like majak daw gourdis was one worth taking a punt on because of their very good athletic abilities rookie list late nd picks is exactly where you take a punt with picks.

theres no guarantees with any pick but there is only one real way to find out

I think what gets a lot us excited is that he was known to be very talented player before the draft, and not just by weaver who had him a top 5 pick but most ofthe respected draft watchers rated him a first rd pick. The big problem was he had depression making him a significant risk. Anyone who has had or knows someone with depression will tell you it's diabilitating, not wanting to get out of bed or work or hang out with friends ect. Makes it a massive risk for an AFL club. Hopefully he is past all that because if he can perform to his ability we have a seriously good player on our hands, lightening quick huge leap and extremely strong. Reads the play well and has q great set of hands.

Weaver had him top 5?
I hope he's not another Royce Vardy.

Thought he was the best key forward in the draft and had him instead of Grant to the Bullies, because he had a feeling they'd go for a KPF.
Wow!
Although Weaver thought Jack was a spaz and was so pissed that we drafted him.

Would really like to see Gourdis as a forward one day. I know we're developing his a defender but him as a forward with his athleticism is mouth watering. Obviously had massive wraps on him pre-draft as a forward. We have a few who could play either end - Post, Astbury, Gourdis. All 3 need to be fast tracked.

I think we recently had a pretty big athletic guy who played mostly forward, and I was never of the opinion we would have great success with that formula. Then he almost won a Brownlow playing behind the ball, not to the surprise of many.

IMO, great forwards need to have good football brains and, in particular, masses of natural football instinct. Goo has looked good down back, and I don't think I have ever seen him play forward. But he doesn't look to me to have that natural footy 'knack'. I believe he played forward at U18 level, but we all know that's a whole lot different.

Wasn't just weaver who rated, he went at 5 in the phantom draft and was pretty highly rated by most of the draft watchers. Slid because of the mental issues. As for Jack drafting is a tough gig he got some right got some wrong.
Weave also rated Cotch as a flashy half-forward and had Masten ahead of him.
I'm pretty sure weaver said cotchin was a flashy HF with albett potential if he got fit. He also rated Tommy Rockcliff as an extremely talented player who would go late because of injuries. As I said got some right got some wrong.0

agreed just try him there in 1 game to see what happens & how it pans out. Roach was a wingman untill they tried him at ff & look what happened.
