I agree, you’re not overpaid

So how do you assess crows or Richmond’s drafts out of interest? Crows more AI than you guys and Richmond couldn’t miss. Best draft by miles which made up for their unbelievably stupid trading was the eagles.

Brilliant. Had we selected Murphy Reid instead of Bo Allan it would have been A+ but I can see what they are trying to do.

Really like what you guys did at the draft we won't talk about how poor the trade period was however you did get in who you wanted. Just not sure you had to split pick 3 to do it though.

I think most were pretty happy with the draft. I think we needed to take the pure mid that can kick and have vision but other than that it was superb. Night 2 we hit out of the park and still for the life of me can’t see how Shanahan got to 30, he’s the best tall in the draft IMO.

Yeah most on Sydney's board wanted him or a similar type at our second pick, that said I love the high risk/reward pick of Bowman. Though at the time it was a what the you know what were we thinking moment!

Very surprised you didn’t take a tall with that pick. Mind you few talls coming through your academy in the next couple of years, so that may explain the strategy.

Yeah have a couple next year and I think one the year after. We did need a small forward so that was the obvious pick straight up, then it was who on earth knows after that, they went for the Home Run in Bowman, either works or it doesn't but has huge potential.

Heard Reid spooked a few interstate clubs enough to not consider him. Will be a strong watch to return home over the next couple of years.

I’m not convinced Allan is a mid. If he ends up there then it’s a win, but I wouldn’t want both Ginbey and him playing HBF.

That said, picking the local kid at a spot where his talent lay was a safe and solid choice.

Jagga over them both would have been my choice but it seems there was never a real intent by the eagles team to get him.

The flight risk is certainly what would have been weighed up. No question for me Reid is the better player and list fit. We’ll know in three years if it was the right call. Agree with you on Jagga at 3 given FOS went to north.

I think the outcome is all that matters so the Lions get an A…call it a rort, call it luck…who cares? They got in talent cheaply…job done

As for rating draft performance of other teams, what’s the point of comparing picks against Bigfooty groupthink? Did teams draft according to a discernible strategy that suits where they’re at in the list building cycle? If so, great…time will tell if they nailed it or not but all you can do is have a good strategy and stick to it

I think Brisbane deserves the A rating they have been given across the draft and trade period.

After free agency compensation the lions came into the trade period with pick 20, 60 and 73 we added in our future 2nd - a pick likely in the 30s after being pushed back by all the academy and f/s picks next year - and lost Harry Sharp.

We come out with Levi, Marshall, Gallop, Day, Ftr 3rd from Ess, WC, GC, WB and future 4th from Saints.

So a late first, late second, late third, late fourth and a fringe player (who would be starved of opportunity with us) for 2 First round midfielders, a KPF to develop, 3 better third round picks and a better fourth round pick.

There was clear assistance from the current system and the future 3rds were from Levi dropping; however, there isn't much else the lions could have done better (maybe get the deal with St Kilda for their future second but we were a pick late). It is what was expected but it still takes a lot to get the outcomes the lions got.

Maybe but that’s like saying every team who beats Richmond next year gets an A. Performance has to be measured against expectation and in all professional pursuits it is.
I’m not comparing other teams against anything but an objective standard. We can’t evaluate careers before they occur as you imply. We can evaluate how they used their picks to get players based on consensus ranking and whether they improved future draft capital which is all I did and all you can really measure at this time. Ashcroft may be a star or a bust who knows. He was probably the #1 pick in an open draft you got him at 5 that’s a tick. Marshall went about expected and Gallup went early. You got extra future picks for current ones you weren’t using so that’s good. Alright you’ve talked me into a B-!

I personally cant fault Richmond's trade period , That was a brilliant piece of work by Blair Hartley - A+

Draft period was fantastic also and filled alot of needs both midfield & KPP
If i was to make 1 exception it would have been Berry over Faull with the KPF we drafted later in the draft in Armstrong & Sim

Jasper Alger for our F4 was just brilliant and i would have been happy to take him with the Sims selection - A

Blair has been extremely under rated by outsiders for years but internally always highly rated

Pays the asking price for players he chased and gets the best value for players that get chased by clubs

nah i would've gone Tauru. but Langford is finding ways to impact games which is great so early in his career.
