Caltex Socceroos to play Korea Republic in Busan

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that an agreement with the Korean Football Association (KFA) has been finalised for an international friendly to be played between the Caltex Socceroos and Korea Republic in the forthcoming FIFA match window.
“It is fantastic news that this friendly has now been finalised and I am itching to get together with our boys in Busan,” Arnold said.
“With the commencement of our 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign only a few months away, next month’s camp and friendly in Korea will provide a great chance for us to work with a selection of players who we expect to play a part on our road to Qatar over the coming years.”
Arnold will announce his squad for Australia’s trip to Korea Republic in the coming weeks.
Australia’s match against Korea Republic will kick-off at 8pm local time (9pm AEST), June 7th and will be broadcast live in Australia on FOX SPORTS and Network 10 (10 Bold).

A big test for Arnold to see where we are at before the Asian qualifiers.

Our main blokes are in form except for our strikers, naturally. Also what are the chances Milligan gets another start?

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has announced six debutants in a rather A-League-heavy squad for their upcoming international against Korea Republic.

Arnold has favoured youth over experience in his latest squad, with Mat Ryan, Aaron Mooy, Mat Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Robbie Kruse and Trent Sainsbury among a host of regulars omitted.

Instead, A-League-winning duo Andrew Redmayne and Brandon O'Neill have been rewarded for their successful domestic seasons, alongside Melbourne Victory's Lawrence Thomas, Olyroos centre-back Harry Souttar, Rotherham's Ryan Williams and Brandon Borrello of Freiburg.

Only three players form the last Socceroos starting XI have returned to the squad, with Arnold eager to witness Aziz Behich, Chris Ikonomidis and Rhyan Grant in action once more ahead of future FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

"Our World Cup qualification campaign preparations start now. The upcoming camp and friendly international in Korea Republic provides us the opportunity to expose more players to international football, which is vital as we prepare for a long qualification campaign," Arnold said.

"We have seen how arduous the previous World Cup path was for our squad and it is imperative that we spend this valuable time together to have a close look at some of our next generation.

"We have eleven players in this squad who have all had excellent seasons in the domestic competition and my message to those playing in the Hyundai A-League is that if you are playing regularly and consistently for your club, you will come into consideration for the next phase of World Cup qualifiers.

"This international window also gives me the chance to spend an extended time with some of our more experienced players who have recently been missing from international football, but have been playing well for their respective clubs like Matthew Spiranovic, Rhys Williams, Adam Taggart, Bailey Wright, Josh Brillante and Brad Smith."

The Socceroos will face Korea Republic on June 7 in what will be their first competitive fixture since their 2019 Asian Cup campaign in January.

Odd squad. Rhys Williams back from nowhere. Bailey Wright suddenly back. Ryan Williams finally called up. Spiranovic rewarded for a good season. Brad Smith recalled. Goodwin finally called up.

I mean, it is a friendly after all.

Redmayne and Thomas as goalkeepers....... ok.

I like what you've done with the midfield allowing us to play with 12 :).

Redmayne seriously don’t we have any other keepers in Australia
After Ryan, all of out number twos are old as *. Langerak, Federici, Vukovic and Brad Jones were all amongst the world cup squad. Do we have any Aussie keepers playing decently overseas? Cause all of our Australian A League keepers are not international standard.

Neither does the coach

Found the draw on Youtube, Tim Cahill reading out the names. Qatar requested to be in position 5 to allow them more time to prepare for Copa America...do you reckon the FFA even thought about that? Of course not. No idea how that will work given the last qualifier is 2 days before the Copa begins!

So according to Wikipedia our draw is
10 September - Kuwait (A)
10 October - Nepal (H)
15 October - Taipei (A)
14 November - Jordan (A)
26 March - Kuwait (H)
31 March - Nepal (A)
4 June - Taipei (H)
9 June - Jordan (H)

The Copa America is due to start on June 12!
