One day people are going to realise that Stenglein should not be in the centre square.

We keep pushing up the values of individual players, in out midfield, but the fact is our midfield is our achilles heel at present, and the centre square clearances, we get are useless!!!!!, compared to when sugar, and bickley played.
Please please, don't associate 20mt centre square scrub kicks, as being the sign of a great centre sq player (Stenglein).

Whatever peoples definition is of a receiver player, I can assure you Reilly is not one of them.

Gotta agree. Has quick hands in close have set-up some nice plays.
Haven't seen what his general play has been like though? Is he tight enough defensively?

Please tell me whose fault is that?????? I get sick and tired of people bagging Stenglein when he is one of only a very small handful that actually have a dip and put their bodies on the line. Fact is he had 11 clearences against Geelong. More than any other player. Yes they are scrubber kicks that go 20-30 meters BUT how about our half forward line playing a bit smarter. They know that its not going far so how about they get ready for it and play in front.

I reckon you and a number of others that bag Stenglein as a centreman should have listened to Simon Goodwin on the radio the other day. One bloke rang up making the same point as you just did. Simon asked that called how many times does the actual clearence go directly deep into the forward line in a game of footy. Stats show that it happens only 6-7% and thats to the best teams. Yes he could be better at it and he will improve with time but seriusly don't bag Stenglein for it try bagging our half forward who are not reading the play well and are playing from behind.

Thats like blaming the ruckman for winning the tap and opposition midfielders getting the clearences even tho it is out midfielders who are not getting the front position and are being led to the ball. How about playing in front and getting first to the ball and reading the play better.

Stenglein was clearing centre clearences the same way in 2002 and he finished 2nd in the best and fairest and we never complained about it back then. Now that the others are not waiting for his clearences the way they did in 2002 and all of a sudden Stenglein is not good at it.

Accusing the HF line of not being able to read Stengleins clearances is ...
Wern't you the one who last week got stuck into Burton for his disposals.
Now your saying, well, its the receivers fault for not reading the kick.
No consistency in your argument.

He's getting clearances because as a tagger, AFC have been directing their taps to him, believing his tag, is trying to lose him, not cover him. And thats credit to Clarke, not Stenglein. It's what Stenglein does once he receives it - he is just not qick enough with hand or foot.

As an around the ground player I love him - doesn't mean I have rose colored glasses to his weaknesses though.

If your slow with your disposal - sorry he is not going to improve that aspect. Players who take 4-6 steps to balance, are never going to become 1-2 step kick players with accuracy.

Is Biglands going to learn to become a smart player???

Sorry who quoted the 6-7% stat of balls going deep into the forward line. Did Goody just happen to have had that fogure in his head in readiness for the interview.
A lot of balls are sqeezed out wide to a wing, or HFF, we are talking about effective clearances v ineffective clearances.
We are not suggesting our clearances are up to scratch or in line with AFL averages are we.
