i dont understand, why is #1 so important of who wears it

#1 has been worn by many St Kilda greats, but it has been immortalised by the club champion Trevor Barker.
To be given the opportunity to wear #1 is a great honour.

Jason Gram is a worthy recipient, not just because of his meteoric rise to stardom, but also through a lifelong devotion to the Saints.

I would think being an Essendon supporter you would know the significance of numbers on jumpers - 5, 10, 18, 27?

The most famous numbers at St Kilda are

1 - Barker & Peckett
3 - Ross Smith & Nathan Burke (and Super Duper)
4 - Darrel Baldock, Barry Breen, Tony Lockett & Andrew Thompson
5 - Ian Stewart, Geoff Cunningham & Aussie Jones
10 - Neil Roberts, Carl Ditterich & Peter Everitt

There weren't too many nominations for Grammy either here or on Saintsational to get the #1 jumper but I wouldn't think many people would be disappointed.
