I'm embarrassed to say I am going for Geelong. Feel like they have paid their dues with bulk prelim and GF losses and they probably deserve one on balance.

Should be going for the Swans though considering last year they came from nowhere as a young team to play (reasonably well) in finals. A year ahead of us?

That said, the only dude I know here that follows AFL is a Cats fan and that could be painful. Crazy thing is he was in the Swans academy with Heeney so you'd think he'd be a Swans fan.

I lost interest after we lost...

Two clubs forever contending... and just never seem to go away.

But i guess if i had to pick it would be Sydney. Felt like they got robbed in 2016 with the horrible umpires.

I can't really put into words why, but despite having lived in Sydney and previously half-supporting the Swans as a 2nd team, I think I'd prefer Geelong

I don't really care who wins, but a Geelong win might mean the retirement of a few of their older types, which would be nice

Either way I'll be happy for Stengle or McCartin, both great stories this year

The up side of Geelong winning is they will likely have bulk retirements afterwards and they will drop to the bottom of the ladder. But I'm still going for the swans.

My uncle-in-law was a mad Cats fan (was from Geelong) and tried for years to draw me into being interested in the games he was watching when we would come over on summer holidays - with very little success. When I finally migrated to Australia and ended up in Perth, I fell into the game (and Freo) all by myself without him knowing - as he was based in Victoria.

it was probably bittersweet for him when and how he found out that I was hooked - because i called him as soon as 2012 EF ended after we kicked his team out when no one gave us a chance.

I remember watching one Freo game with him during our magic run in 2013 - I had come over to visit him because he‘d been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. we may have been playing the Crows - can’t remember. He didn’t know whether to be proud at how passionately I was cheering for us or appalled at all the expletives I was throwing out at the TV.

He died a few weeks before we were shunted off to Kardinia and kicked his Cats to the curb so I didn’t have the chance to rekindle the rivalry. I always felt he felt a bit salty I didn’t become a Cats fan despite all his best efforts when I was a kid.

so in honour of my uncle Ray, I’m going for the Swams tomorrow - maybe it will make it up to him if his Cats manage to beat a team I’m nominally barracking for since his team just can’t stop losing to my Dockers in finals.

I don't have much interest in either team. I've found them both annoying over the years. I'll probably support the Swans so their youngsters aren't as motivated in future years. Plus the melts from Cats fans will be delicious.

I usually support against the team that won a flag most recently & tbh I had to look that up. Sydney 2012, Geelong 2011? Geez Geelong have wasted some good years, probably want to win this one.
Unless it’s WC, then I barrack against them every single time. Even bought a magpies scarf to wear to the pub, luckily my nephew supports Collingwood, so he got a used scarf for Christmas that year amongst other things.
But this year I don’t think I’ll know who I’m supporting until the game starts & even then I’m not sure. Total 50/50 this year.
