A Large Portion, Yes
Bentleigh held off a determined St Johns yesterday, winning the Preliminary Final by just 8 points.
This sets up a date for Bentleigh against the Fitzroy Reds in the VAFA D3 Grand Final, at Chelt's Weatherall Rd reserve on Saturday September 15th.
Bentleigh, although suffering from a serious form slump halfway through the season, have clearly been the second-best side all year, and thoroughly deserve the right to take on Fitzroy for the flag.
The Reds, however, remain unbeaten, and have recorded wins over Bentleigh with margins in the 20s, 40s and 30s. The Roys are red-hot favourites.
Bentleigh were bridesmaids in D4 last year, and will be anxious to put that heartbreak to rest. On the Reds side, Fitzroy's strong class and support advantage should still hold them in good stead.
Both teams will advance to Division D2 in 2002, no matter the outcome.
I predict a Reds win by about 9 goals.
