Not just the Prelims... but the last month or so.
Look at the last few Grand Finals. Whoever's form was better in the month before the Grand Final usually wins
2010: Collingwood was on fire in the second half of the year. Won the QF and PF easily. St.Kilda won the QF by 3 points. Was "okay" in the month before the GF but not as good as Coll. Premier: Collingwood
2009: St.Kilda lost in round 20 and 21, beat the wooden spooners in round 22. Then had a 22 point win the QF and an unimpressive 7 point win in the PF. Geelong won by 40 pts in round 22, won the QF by 14 then won the PF by 73. They were playing better in the month before the GF, Premier : Geelong
2008: Hawthorn won round in 22 by 78, then the QF and PF by 51 and 54 points. Geelong won round 22 by 99 (over a shit WCE at Kardinia) the QF and PF by 58 and 29. Not much in it for wise, but Hawthorn was travelling just as well at the time if not better than Geelng in the month before the Grand Final. Premier: Hawthorn
2007 Geelong was on fire the entire second half of the year. They won their first final by 106, and their next by just 5, but their form in the month before the GF was superior to everyone, not just Port. premier: Geelong
The team with the better form nearly always wins.
If Collingwood could just "turn it on," surely they would have done so in the QF and PF, right?
Not that any of this means they can't win. They absolutely can. Geelong are just playing better at the current time, that's all.

Not just because I am a cats fan but I agree with this. I was very nervous going into 08 and was not surprised we lost. Although it did hurt.
Geelong's form has been superior coming into this GF any way you look at it.
Collingwood and WC are the best teams at implementing the press but when this has been beaten as Geelong has done they have struggled to change their game to combat Geelong's long kicking game.
Teams are so well drilled at following the team plan these days that when the plan fails I think a lot of teams struggle to adapt quick enough. We saw this in rd24 and in the PF.
I am not underestimating Collingwood by any stretch. They are a quality side. It will be a cracking game but if Collingwood's Plan A is the press they'd better have a plan B.
