Talk about the possible matchups in the upcoming Grand Final. Who takes Buddy, Roughy, Cyril etc. and which Hawks do you think will get the task on Jetta, Goodes, Kennedy etc.

The Jetta one will be very interesting, he's hit top form again and his opponent from when we last played, Brent Guerra, will be out of the team. Do they have anyone defensive to run with him or will they try an opposing wingman like Isaac Smith to try and hurt us going the other way.

Think I heard Guerra will be in for the GF? Gibson mentioned something about it, or I might have misheard.

But like I said last night, Jetta has proven it wasn't his inability to deal with a tag, but a legitimate drop in form. He's back in a big way.

I think we'll just see a lot of H2H battles in the middle. A lot of similar players in both midfields.

Kennedy v Mitchell would be the marquee match-up. The 'Battle for Norm'.

First things that come to mind
Franklin - Richards
Roughead - Grundy
Gunston - Johnson
Breust - Smith
Cyril - Shaw
Puopolo- Malceski

Schoenmakers- Reid
Gibson - LRT
Birchall- Pyke
Stratton-Morton

Mitchell- Kennedy
Hale-Mumford
Sewell - Jack
Lewis - Okeefe
Burgoyne- Goodes
Shiels- Bird
Ellis- Mattner
Hodge-Hanneberry
Smith-Jetta
Young-Bolton
Suckling-McVeigh (booth loose)
Savage-Parker (sub)

I just think Breust is one player that can get under other sides guards and is very damaging.

Not saying that Cyril isnt of course, just think Shaw is the better match up for the pace factor.

Maybe i just like shaw running off players cyril needs a glove, but its one of the two.

We somehow have to find a way of exploiting Schoenmakers, he struggled on Tippett and looks down on confidence. I remember a similar thing happened to LRT in 2006 after he was beaten by Pav in the PF. It was not the decisive match up in the grand final against the Eagles, but we did give Hansen and Lynch a sniff early on. I think Reid will be better next week, perhaps the pressure of playing against his brother's team got to him. Should be an interesting match up!

Schoenmakers has historically played alright on Reid. But I agree, he is the one that needs to be exploited. I think the key to that is to try and keep Gibson away from that contest. Gibson HAS to be made accountable for his man, and THE MAN LRT is the man for that job.

Definitely LRT should go to Gibson. That would leave Schoenmakers with Reid as usual with Stratton going to Goodes when forward and if you chuck Pyke/Mumford up there, we've got a very tall forward line to deal with.

Smith to Rioli and Bird to Suckling or Birchall. Probably Suckling as Birchall might need to play on Morton or even one of our talls.

Agree with LRT on Gibson. I'd like to see Goodes on Schoenmakers as he can run him around the ground if needed but I'd also back Goodes in a marking contest with the Schoe 8-9 times out of 10

Based on last night I think we want Schoenmakers close to goal manning the resting ruckman or Goodes. Try and isolate that match up. Goodes has his faults as a forward but his body use and marking is very good.

Gibson is the one we need to drag up the ground away from the contest.

Completely agree. Put LRT on him and order him to give Reid and goodes space. If we eliminate his 3rd man up tactic it'd go a long way to winning

Great chat guys but how exactly does a forward choose which defender plays on him ?

Fair point. Then it should be 'whoever gets Gibson should drag him out of the contest'. Generally with match ups we go best suited defender to forward

Jarryd Roughead will drop back into defense and fill a hole in front of the Sydney tall forwards as much as possible leaving Hale, Buddy and Gunston up forward.

As for the game, it's 50-50. I'm not confident at all. However if Hawthorn play their best and Sydney play their best, Hawthorn will win.

I do hope so, means we should be able to get the third man up in the back line. Roughead would cause huge headaches up forward.

Goodes might as well take a GOOD defender and run him around, Clangers isn't worth the effort
