Grand Final Recall

Don't get me wrong, Scott did a great job in his first year, but his greatest achievement was to just keep the ship running smoothly, he had the players to win, all he had to do was not stuff it up and let the people around him support him along the way.

Most Chris Scott interviews I've read say pretty much the same thing. He admits mostly just a few tweaks (long ball F50 bombs, dump a lot of games into youth etc) and letting the older players do their thing in the finals.

The promos are bugging me as well. If only your president was one of the head honchos at fox footy and could do something about it :)

Write Eddie a letter!

The grand final review is a bit dorky. Wish the Cats didn't do it. Happy to have the coaching panel say what happened / changed / motivations on the day. Less happy for the players because they'll always look gloating. They don't look that comfortable in the promos.

Have not watched a second of footage since leaving that ground and won't for a very long time. I don't need to beat myself up looking at key moments and thinking of different outcomes.

I don't care if they're respectable or not, I couldn't think of anything worse than watching Huddo with a throbbing boner looking around at them with Dwayne being super dramatic, sickening.

Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it, I think your missing the point on what I'm trying to say, Would you say that Buckley is overrated if he is able to win the flag in his first year as senior coach ???

Of course some people are going to be sooks if there team gets knocked out in the prelims, Just like some of your supporters are over the grand final result saying Geelong were lucky to win the flag, thats why I said i think its an insult to the club who has won 3 flags in 5 years, Thats not luck & its just an awesome team who wanted more success.

Reality is that Geelong was better managed in 2011, Both teams had players who were not 100% match fit going into the finals, Geelong clicked and the pies didn't, thats just the way football works mate, I realise this is a pies board, just curious why such statements would be made saying the Geelong players are smug and Chris Scott is overrated for no legitimate reason after dominating the comp for 5 years.

We had plenty more players not 100% fit in the GF, Geelong were better managed throughout 2011 but injuries can't be planned/managed before they happen. A fit Reid and Jolly would have been enough to tighten that last quarter up but history won't show that. Any coach who takes over a team like that can't take a whole lot of credit, he built nothing, he created nothing, he just inherited.

I didn't insult your coach and you are are to be congratulated on your accomplishment but you had an armchair ride wether you want to admit it or not. Pies were a shambling shell of a side by the time we made the GF and still had your lots number until 3/4 time.

Be gracious in defeat! We were the better side last year and injuries played little part in the final result, as we had our fair share of injuries as well. Better man management and superior coaching tactics got us the victory in the decider.

I'm glad you read the whole thread. No one is being sooky here and we don't need a breakdown, we all saw it. Back to your board now.

I am being gracious in defeat, you had a great year and deserved your win but you are being blind in victory if you think you didn't get an armchair ride.

Do we play 18 games in Melbourne and rarely travel interstate?

I'd trade 7 games of total exclusivity a year for all the so called 'Home" games we have at the G any day of the week.

The Grand Final and majority of finals for that matter are played at the MCG which Collingwood have the advantage of using more than most.

Geelong has a 7 game advantage of using their exclusive use of their home ground against weaker teams to make the finals.

That's fair enough. I've got too much respect to come on your board and argue any further so if you wish to carry on i'm quite happy to continue elsewhere.
All the best.

Not aware that simmonds stadium has a small capacity hey & therefore play the lesser teams, No point in playing teams that draw bigger crowds down in Geelong right ????

Complain to the AFL that Victoria park is no longer viable for Collingwood, It's stupid alot of people think its unfair that Geelong have kept their own suburban ground & whinge saying it's an unfair advantage they are the only club who has a ground which is used by Geelong only, Considering it's a one team town....Makes sense I think.

You make plenty of money from the games anyway, but thankfully it is not a big stadium so we don't have to go down there and mix with your hick farmer supporters. The less time spent in Geelong the better - absolute hole of a town

I'm not sure what your point is but you are talking bollocks, perhaps you are a fan of Bollocks.

The AFL forced ground rationalism (the whole metropolitan{AFL} comp) on us. You were just lucky that your country ground survived.

Of course it has more to do with that, at that time, the AFL was looking for dollars to survive & then thrive. It needed clubs to be central to one of two venues to increase cash, make it more appealing to broadcasters (only 2 places you need to set up cams etc).

End result (god I'm even bored typing this), Geelong have done well.........a by product of the VFLs incompetence.

Either you're thick as a brick or you're trying to obfusicate. . .

It's not about crowds or money. . . .

It's about having the ADVANTAGE of playing at a ground that NO OTHER TEAM PLAYS AT MORE THAN ONCE A YEAR.

Apologies to others for the caps but this one seems intent on obscuring the issues.

I agree & I'm not here to cause any problems, Just curious on others opinions, Geelong have done well to have recovered from massive debt in the 90s & turn it around, Just frustrating all the the bitching by other supporters in general saying we are only won the premierships because of father son rule or win extra games because we dont play the likes of your boys down in Geelong, If any its bollocks thats gotta be it.

Geelong are the only team out of the top 4 not to have bottomed out and gain priority picks, I'm sure Hawkins is the only player who was highly rated in recent times.

End of rant & I wish you all the best for the season.

I don't think you can have it one way and not the other. Geelong have done well with recruiting and training but they have the natural advantage of being the only Victorian team with the exclusive right to the use of their own stadium for 7 matches every year. Saying this doesn't give a very definite advantage is just bollucks as you put it.
