No not another essendon v carlton v north argument.

TheAFL must be betting that there will be no drawn grand final and need for a replay in 2000.

That is there is an olympic ban on sporting events other than olympic ones in olympic cities (includes melbourne brisbane perth adelaide because of the soccer)

This would mean the MCG is not available for a replay. I remember the government got an exemption for waverley park because it is 35 km from the centre of melbourne therefore not in an olympic city.

Recent reports are that the AFL is 'gutting' the venue of catering and other facilities.

If the grand final is drawn, what will happen ?

Has anyone heard any updates on this >

Pess.

I might be wrong, but I think that for quite a few years now they don't have drawn GF, they play extra time until someone wins.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it works.

Isn't the Grand Final on Sep2 ?

And the Olympics don't start untill Sep15

... so by my reckoning that leaves the MCG available for a possible GF replay on Saturday Sep 9 without interference from Olympics commitments.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Quite true about Waverley - It has been completely gutted of ticketing, administration and catering facilities. There is absolutely no possibility Waverley will be used for future AFL fixtures.

Apparantly the Olympic 'ban' applies for a couple of weeks before the start. That is why the GF is so early.

I remember it being discussed last year that waverley would be the replay venue. It's 'last' date ever.

PS Colonial is in melbourne therefore also under the 'ban'

The AFL haven't been having much luck this year - perhaps the GF will be a draw
Perhaps D24 would then award it to the 'minor' premier

Not only can they not play at the MCG because of the ban on events, they will also be relaying a new pitch for the soccer the day after the Grand Final.

Hey I just had a great idea!!!!!

If we are not going to be able to play a replay then why not just give the premiership to the minor premiers and don't play any finals?

WOW That way the minor premiers could get recognised more. I bet no-one has thought of rewarding them before!!!

If a player had one week of a suspension to go, and his team made the GF, he wouldn't be able to play, right? But what if it was a draw, and replayed the next weekend?
Would the replay be treated as an entirely new game of footy (and he therefore be allowed to play), or a continuation of the drawn match (played without him)?

Like it's ever going to happen

Guess it pays to be prepared though.

The Grand Final will be played at Football Park the week after if it is a draw regardless of the teams playing.

This has already been decided by the AFL.

Is that true, rewind? It's a good idea, not that it will happen. Football Park would only hold fractionally more than half the people but it would still be a suitable venue.

I thought of it then dismissed the idea, but if other grounds aren't available...
