I don't damn well remembe
AFL Club
Hawthorn
Other Teams
Go The Mighty Hawks
We have had the usual fiasco this year with true supporters of the clubs being left out in the cold for the corporates. I think no-one actually agrees with this but the solutions are hard to find if you don't ignore money. After much thought about this here is a possible solution-
Any member signing for a season ticket for any club should have the right to for a fee of $10 obtain a grand final ticket if that club makes the grand final. They would still have to pay for the ticket at the going rate.
If your team doesn't make it you lose the $10.
I see the advantages of this as follows-
1. The true fan who puts their hand in their pocket each week wil be better off.
2. The value of a season ticket would increase.
3. The cost at $10 per year isn't great
4. The true fans of the competing clubs will definitely get in
5 The non competing clubs are funding the system too.
6. This could be achieved without further robbing the A.F.L members of rights which while in my opinion are wrong they have paid their money in good faith for.
7. The money would be in early ( you would cut off at say 30th April).
8. If there was an even take up by all clubs(yes I know it wouldn't be even but thta works both ways too)$80 would have been paid before the tickets were issued.
9. A club that cares for its members could institute this without the backing of the clowns in the A.F.L( & make some money at the same time)
Interested in peoples thoughts on this idea

Not a bad idea, though the

"9. A club that cares for its members could institute this without...." kinda excludes my team

At the Mighty West Coast members are little more than stats to quote at Melbourne clubs and money. Sad really....

Great idea for your first post goatmaster!!!

Disagree with a couple of points though (as I always do).

$10 is nothing- i would certainly be prepared to pay it for a guaranteed seat should the doggies make it, as would most of the footy going public for their respective teams. But this is where the main problem lies. If u get 30,000 members taking up the offer, a lot will still miss out. A cut off point would be good (even though it would be difficult to make an estimate due to the proportional allocation of tickets) and could be used as an incentive to buy memberships early. But on the down side, after this cut off point, it may lead to disillusioned supporters thinking "why buy a memebership when I still have NO chance of going to the grand final".

If you were to raise this price (to match supply and demand- i knew economics class would come in useful ONE day), it could cause an uproar with complaints about the rising costs of footy. If however, they take into account that if they miss out they will be paying thousands to scalpers, they could compromise. But they won't look at it logically. They'll just complain. These people will never be pleased.

I love the idea, and reckon it has great merit if implemented properly. Well done.
